Also Most Wishlisted Xbox & Bethesda Game!

Starfield has already established itself as an iconic entry in the RPG genre. Before the game’s full release, Starfield had gathered around 2 million players, but this was just the beginning of the RPG’s success.

A day after the full release, Phil Spencer confirmed that Starfield reached over 1 million concurrent players across Steam and Xbox, and the Xbox boss has recently revealed another exciting bit of information about the game.

According to Phil Spencer, Starfield is the most-played next-generation exclusive for Xbox.

Why it matters: The Xbox Series S|X consoles have struggled with their first-party libraries since 2020, but the latest launch appears to be living up to Microsoft and Bethesda’s expectations.

During a recent interview with CNBC, Phil Spencer was asked about the game’s exclusivity, as Starifled was not always planned as an exclusive title. This change was made once Microsoft acquired ZeniMax Media.

The Head of Xbox confirmed that the game is doing great on the platform and stated:

“We’ve had more players for any next-gen exclusive than we’ve had this generation.”

He also confirmed that Starfield is by far the most wish-listed game between Xbox and Bethesda on Steam to date.

This success has been possible after eight years of development and multiple delays. Todd Howard has also praised Microsoft’s efforts, claiming that exclusivity helped the developer make a better product.

Phil Spencer and Microsoft appear to be satisfied with the game due to the positivity surrounding Bethesda’s latest release.

Since Starfield had a prolonged marketing campaign that was better than any recent Xbox first-party launch, the game has reached a much wider audience than other releases from the gaming giant in recent years.

Starfield marks a major comeback for Xbox after it was lambasted by fans and critics due to the poor release of Redfall. Arkane Austin’s game was expected to be another important first-party release in 2023, but it ended up a disaster for the studio.

Nonetheless, Xbox aims to continue its momentum in the remaining months of 2023 and beyond, with Forza Motorsport marking the next major first-party release.
