The Far Cry series has been one of Ubisoft’s most popular franchises, attracting fans from around the world and getting massively positive feedback regarding each installment in the series.
Far Cry 6, the most current game in the series, came out in October 2021, and it, too, like the other titles, perceived well by the fans. Now it looks like Ubisoft has already started development on the next iteration to this famous franchise.
Two new Far Cry games are reportedly in development, one of which is Far Cry 7 and the other of which is a multiplayer-only game, according to information provided by sources to industry insider Tom Henderson.

He revealed that both games were initially planned to be one but were later split into two different games throughout the development process. Project Blackbird refers to the game that is presumably Far Cry 7, whereas Project Maverick refers to the multiplayer Far Cry title.
He also disclosed that Project Maverick, the multiplayer Far Cry title, underwent several changes during development. It is currently an extraction-based shooter game with mechanics like permadeath, a backpack system, contracts, and more, and it is pitched to be set in the Alaskan wilderness.
The sources which provided all the information to Tom Henderson also provided him with game screenshots, but he was instructed not to share them. However, lootable chests, extraction zones, and other things were seen in the screenshots.
There aren’t many details available about Project Blackbird (Far Cry 7); however, given that the two games were formerly one before being split, a setting similar to Project Maverick is anticipated.
Furthermore, Tom Henderson claims that the games still have a few years to go and have an uncertain release date of fall 2025. Additionally, Ubisoft Montreal is believed to have heavy involvement in the games.
We are excited and looking forward to hearing more from Project Blackbird and Project Maverick. This is the limited information we have for now, but we will be looking for more news regarding the rumored projects currently in development at Ubisoft.
