- Raven Software’s Wolfenstein is showing signs of a possible return.
- SteamDB shows that the game is now compatible with both the Steam Deck and Steam Machine.
- The original release date has also been removed from the platform, with the title receiving updates both last year and in 2026.
Wolfenstein fans may soon have another reason to revisit the series’ pre-MachineGames era. Unlike other games in the series, Raven Software’s 2009 entry has remained stuck on older hardware and unavailable through major digital storefronts for years.
Amid building excitement for Wolfenstein 3, Raven Software’s Wolfenstein could be getting the remaster treatment soon.
Why it matters: Wolfenstein 2009 was far from a commercial success at launch, but many fans still hold it close to their hearts. In particular, they appreciate the game for being one of the last Raven Software titles before the studio became a dedicated Call of Duty developer.
As mentioned earlier, Wolfenstein 2009 was developed primarily by Raven Software and published by Activision. The game is notable for blending the first-person shooter combat of Wolfenstein with supernatural elements and powers.
Interestingly enough, SteamDB shows that the first-person shooter was updated on Steam last year. Moreover, it reveals that the game received an update as recently as just four days ago.
These updates point to Steam Deck and Steam Machine support for the title. The game’s store release date of 18 August 2009 has also been removed in one update, suggesting that a new release will be added to the title.
This could mean that a new release date is being added to the title. If so, this would mean that a remaster is indeed being worked on, possibly to build excitement for the rumored Wolfenstein 3.
Fans can also expect to see Wolfenstein 2009 land on Game Pass if it does indeed return in a big way. Like many of Activision’s forgotten games from the past, fans would be more than delighted to revisit the title on modern hardware.
