Splitgate Devs Are Making A Spiritual Successor To Titanfall, Announcement Comes Later This Year

A New Titanfall-Like Shooter Could Take The Industry By Storm!

Story Highlight
  • Splitgate developers are working on a Titanfall-like FPS experience, according to the latest report.
  • The game features wall running, grappling hooks, mechs, and other features reminiscent of the Titanfall IP.
  • It is currently in the pre-alpha phase, and the studio will announce it sometime later this year.

Fans have been hoping for Titanfall 3 ever since EA slowly moved away from licensed IPs. Multiple reports over the years suggested that such a title with extraction shooter elements was in development, but it was cancelled after Respawn suffered multiple layoffs.

A new report now reveals that 1047 Games, the studio behind the Splitgate franchise, is now working on a spiritual successor to Titanfall as its next big shooter project. It is reportedly in the pre-alpha phase, and a late 2026 reveal for it is already planned.

Why it matters: EA has constantly missed the mark with the Titanfall franchise since 2016, despite it being incredibly popular. A spiritual successor to the IP appears to be the next best thing, but it’s also quite a risky gamble for 1047 Games.

Titanfall 3
The Titanfall franchise is among the most influential in the FPS genre.

This tidbit comes via Insider Gaming’s reporter and credible insider, Tom Henderson, who got to see the pre-alpha footage of the game.

Called Empulse, it currently features a team deathmatch mode with grappling hooks, wall running, and boost pads for Titanfall-like movement mechanics. Of course, the project also wouldn’t be complete without mechs.

Giant mechs are reportedly spread around the map that can be obtained and used by players during matches. However, the method of obtaining these mechs might change further into development.

The mech in the shown footage had a shield for extra protection and a missile launcher with a cooldown. So Tom speculates that each mech could feature its own playstyle and abilities. It’s also unknown whether the title will be free or a premium experience.

splitgate 2
Splitgate 2 suffered from a mixed reception.

While fans are excited for a Titanfall spiritual successor, 1047 Games’ fumble with Splitgate 2 is making gamers nervous about what to expect.

The live-service game failed to take off even after a huge relaunch due to controversies and failure to retain a large enough crowd. Therefore, Empulse could be a do-or-die moment for the studio.

Do you think 1047 Games will be able to nail down a Titanfall-like experience, given the mediocre reception of Splitgate 2? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.
