Miles Morales Will Be Insomniac’s Main Spider-Man Moving Forward

Expert Verified By

Sorry Peter, Miles Is The New Protagonist!

Story Highlights
  • Spider-Man 2 already teased this transition.
  • Insomniac confirms Miles Morales is the main Spider-Man after the recent game.
  • This could mean that another solo game based on the character will arrive soon.

Spider-Man 2 has allowed Insomniac the unique opportunity to tell two Spider-Man stories at the same time. With players being able to play as both Peter Parker and Miles Morales, fans have been curious about the studio’s next move.

While the developer was expected to continue this formula, it appears Insomniac is taking a different approach. According to an interview, the studio will continue with Miles Morales as the leading Spider-Man in future stories.

Why it matters: Historically, Peter Parker has been the face of Spider-Man while Miles Morales has struggled to find his own identity. Therefore, this decision is an odd one but may lead to distinct stories in the future.

Marvel's Spider-Man 2

A few days before Spider-Man 2 became PlayStation’s biggest launch, the writers were interviewed about different things. During this interview, the team addressed the transition toward Miles Morales as the main Spider-Man.

Toward the end of the game, Insomniac already hinted at this pivotal moment, and the interview makes it official. When asked about the developer’s thought process behind this decision, narrative director Ben Arfmann said:

“We knew we wanted to have that moment of handing the reins over.”

Unsurprisingly, this does not mean that Peter Parker is going away. Instead, the studio appears to have given the character a much-needed break, allowing him to focus on the more simpler parts of his life.

This decision could also mean that the next Spider-Man game may be another solo adventure centered around Miles Morales, with the eventual return of Peter Parker in a third mainline entry.

Over the last two games, the developer has nurtured Miles Morales into the ideal Spider-Man. He is brave, confident, caring, and possesses all the characteristics of a superhero.

This growth has been very exciting to watch, and we cannot wait to see where the character goes next.

Marvel's Spider-Man

Apart from a new protagonist, Insomniac appears to have teased plans for a Venom spin-off. The studio is all ears, suggesting it will listen to fan feedback to plot a course for the future.

The developer has also teased Spider-Man 3 recently, comparing it to the MCU’s natural progression after Captain America Civil War. What this means, however, is anybody’s guess for now.
