Perfect Excuse To Play Spider-Man 2 Before New Film Drops!

Story Highlight
  • Spider-Man 2’s latest update adds PSSR 2.0 support for PS5 Pro.
  • The free patch also includes new Brand New Day and Marvel Tokon suits.
  • Amid excitement for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Insomniac Games has picked the perfect time to update the game.

Marvel is preparing for the launch of Spider-Man: Brand New Day in just a few days. Excitement for both this movie and Avengers Doomsday is currently at an all-time high, with many predicting the former could end up being the second biggest box office performer of all time.

Capitalizing on this hype, Insomniac Games has released a big update for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. In addition to new costumes, the game’s latest version adds PSSR 2.0 support.

Why it matters: The developer is currently preparing for the release of Marvel’s Wolverine, so fans will be glad to know the team has not left the Spider-Man IP behind.

The biggest technical change is aimed at PS5 Pro owners. PSSR 2.0, or Enhanced PSSR, should offer improved image reconstruction, delivering a cleaner picture while preserving the performance and ray-tracing features available through Spider-Man 2’s different visual modes.

The patch also adds Power Saver support. This allows Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 to run through Sony’s reduced-power feature, although players should expect lower performance or visual settings while it is enabled. The interesting part is that this may be part of plans to support the game on the PS6 handheld.

PC players have not been overlooked either. The PC version received a corresponding update with additional fixes and technical improvements, continuing the post-launch work carried out on the port.

Elsewhere, Insomniac Games has added two new costumes. One is inspired by the Spider-Man: Brand New Day suit, while the other brings Marvel Tokon’s Spider-Man suit to the game.

Because movies have shown to prompt interest in games before, the PS5 first-party title could see a surge of new players following the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. In fact, the film also took inspiration from the game, so players will likely feel right at home during this transition.
