Sony PS5 Consoles And PS Portal Get A Massive Price Hike In Southeast Asia

Expert Verified By

The PlayStation Brand Is Getting More Expensive For Gamers Globally.

Story Highlight
  • Sony PS5 consoles, including the digital edition, PS5 Pro, and PS Portal, are getting a price hike.
  • This price increase is hitting Southeast Asia, including countries like Singapore and Thailand.
  • Nearly all the average updated prices of Sony’s current-gen lineup are at least 10% higher than the old ones.

The last few years of each console generation have always seen a noticeable reduction in pricing. This would allow gamers to wholly adopt the lineup globally, turning Sony and Xbox into a global phenomenon. However, this generation has been the opposite.

The Xbox Series and PS5 families of consoles have continued to suffer price hikes instead of getting cheaper, including in non-Western regions. Sony has now announced a huge price increase for its PS5 consoles and PS Portal for Southeast Asia.

Why it matters: Sony’s decision to bump the price of its current-gen lineup is drastically affecting sales. Southeast Asian gamers are already taking to social media to express their disappointment.

The sales will suffer a direct impact in Southeast Asia because of rising prices.

Regions previously hit with price hikes have always seen a huge drop in sales, which is hurting PlayStation’s profitability and brand image across the world.
