Xbox Needs To Do More With PC Platform!

Story Highlight
  • Asha Sharma’s message to the Xbox team reveals her thoughts on Microsoft’s position on the PC gaming industry.
  • She believes Xbox has yet to establish a strong PC presence.
  • The CEO also notes that competition on Windows is the most intense it has ever been.

Under Asha Sharma’s new leadership, the Xbox team has been given new guidelines for the path ahead. The CEO has clarified all the details in a new message dubbed “We are Xbox,” going over topics like exclusivity, potential mergers, pricing, and more.

In the same message, she also admitted that Microsoft’s position in the PC games industry is still not where it should be.

Why it matters: Microsoft has been pursuing the PC platform for over a decade at this point with day one releases, Game Pass, and more.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma on PC Presence

According to Asha Sharma’s message, Microsoft’s team has not found as much success as it hoped for in the PC gaming industry. In her latest message, she openly admitted that Xbox’s presence on PC is not strong enough, highlighting one key area of improvement for the team.

Toward this end, Microsoft has attempted to appeal to players through both the Xbox application and Steam. The gaming giant’s Game Pass initiatives have also seen plenty of popularity on the platform, but Asha Sharma suggests this is not enough.

Perhaps this was why Microsoft thought a hybrid console-PC approach would be a great idea to further expand its hold on the PC platform, but the new CEO’s comments suggest these plans could still be reworked.

Our presence on PC isn’t strong enough.

New Xbox Management Is Shaking Things Up

Later in the message, Asha Sharma also noted that competition on Windows is the most intense it has ever been due to player choice and the sheer variety of games available to everyone.

This is why she ultimately believes that Xbox’s current approach to the gaming industry, including the PC segment, will not work moving forward.

Windows now represents more players and more hours and is increasingly where competition is the most intense.
