You Aren't Safe At Xbox Even If You Do Your Job Well!

  • The company still laid off over 3,000 of its employees despite the decent numbers.
  • There is no job security at Xbox, even if you do the job well and are profitable.

Xbox is in the middle of a huge company reset that has cost the loss of thousands of employees and multiple studios. The company apparently doesn’t seem to be doing too well, but new data suggests the studios were doing fine.

According to new data, 6 Xbox studios generated over $500 million in revenue annually, but the company still laid off over 3,000 employees. Based on these numbers, cutting out so many jobs seems a little bit too exaggerated.

Why it matters: This is no secret that the company is struggling. A huge part of that is the lack of console sales, as the PS5 has now become a de facto console for most. However, as a publisher, things don’t look that grim.

6 Xbox Studios generated over $500 million in revenue

Alex Duplessie, Senior Business Planning Manager at Xbox via LinkedIn, revealed that 6 Xbox studios have generated over $500 million in revenue annually, and 7 game launches in the last year, boasting very decent figures.

Now, he hasn’t clearly stated which studios were behind these numbers, but we can safely assume some of them. These could include Bethesda, Machine Games, and Playground. Obsidian could be another, but that’s just a guess.

However, unfortunately, all of these studios have been affected by the layoffs. So, this aligns with what some employees previously stated: that even if you do a good job at Xbox, it doesn’t guarantee any job security at all.
