Rockstar Might Have Big Plans For Classic Games!

Story Highlight
  • Rockstar Games is hiring a Senior Gameplay Programmer to work with classic technologies.
  • This job listing suggests more remasters, such as Red Dead Redemption, could be in the works at the studio.
  • Fans have also wanted to see remasters for titles like GTA 4 and Max Payne 3 for a while.

Rockstar Games is closer than ever to the release of GTA 6, but following this entry, fans can expect a long period of drought from the studio in terms of brand-new releases.

To combat the long development time, the studio has already shown itself to be willing to revisit older classics like Red Dead Redemption. Following the release of this remaster, a new job listing suggests more remasters in the same vein are on the table.

Why it matters: Rockstar Games has numerous classic IPs that are unlikely to receive much attention due to GTA and Red Dead Redemption’s recent success. However, remasters could bring these IPs to newer platforms.

The studio is currently looking to hire a Senior Gameplay Programmer for Rockstar Games Australia. While the job listing itself does not reveal much, it states that the hired developer will be tasked with working on classic game technology.

You will be working as part of a small but experienced team, ideally taking responsibiltiy for one or more classic game technology areas.

For context, this could be a hint at work with the studio’s older Rage engine technology employed in classic games. Take-Two has also discussed plans for its IPs recently, including more obscure ones like L.A. Noire.

It goes without saying, but these plans could include one or two remasters, especially after the reception for Red Dead Redemption’s remaster. In particular, fans have wanted a GTA 4 remaster for the longest time, and Rockstar Games would have the perfect opportunity to bring this particular entry to modern platforms once GTA 6 is finally available.

A game like Max Payne 3 would also be a perfect candidate for a remaster, especially with the upcoming remakes of the franchise from Remedy expected to arrive very soon.
