Final Fantasy Rebirth Drops To 19 FPS In Nintendo Switch 2 Demo, Says Analyst

The Game Also Struggles During Battle Situations On The Console.

Story Highlight
  • Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 is dropping as low as 19 FPS.
  • The RPG is failing to perform on the hardware in high-density NPC areas like Kalm.
  • Frame rate also fluctuates in small battles, with large-scale combat situations being an even bigger cause for concern.

Nintendo Switch 2 has been a formidable platform for AAA titles till now. Games like Cyberpunk 2077, Star Wars: Outlaws, and Resident Evil Requiem have looked wonderful on the console, and the latter also got a sales boost from launching on it.

However, the hybrid has struggled with certain titles, with Borderlands 4 not coming to Nintendo Switch 2 due to its technical limitations. As it turns out, the port for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is also facing some serious issues on the hardware.

Why it matters: It feels like only some studios know how to properly optimize for the Nintendo Switch 2, while others are still figuring out the formula.

As per YouTuber GVG, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s demo on Nintendo Switch 2 failed to maintain the targeted 30 FPS throughout, dropping as low as 19 FPS in denser areas. In the analysis, the YouTuber revealed that Square Enix made many compromises on the port, removing several elements to make it work.

However, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth still sees a massive performance drop in the area of Kalm on Nintendo Switch 2. This region in the game is filled with NPCs, and the console failed to hold a consistent frame rate due to its processor’s limitations.

According to the analysis, this issue could be fixed for the full launch on June 3rd by further reducing the NPC density in the area. But Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is also suffering during combat sequences.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth will launch on the console on June 3rd.

Some battles with more intensity and heavier visual effects are hard on the hardware, with the frame rate fluctuating a lot. Smaller battles like the Materia Guardian don’t have massive FPS drops that affect gameplay, but the large-scale combat situations are a cause of concern for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2.

Do you think the Square Enix title will improve this fluctuating frame rate when the game fully launches on the console? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
