Gaming Continues To Become More And More Expensive!

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation is yet again increasing prices during the ongoing PS5 generation.
  • PS Plus will now become up to 12% more expensive from May 20.
  • Even more price hikes could follow, with Sony blaming ongoing market conditions for the revisions.

PlayStation has raised prices on various occasions during this generation, spanning both hardware and subscriptions. Following a major revision to PS5 pricing, the latest update comes for PS Plus, marking yet another increase.

Sony has now officially revealed a new pricing structure for the subscription, continuing the trend of making gameplay on its platform more expensive as the generation progresses.

Why it matters: PS Plus is essential to the console gaming experience on PS5 as it unlocks access to online multiplayer for paid titles.

Sony announced that PS Plus prices have been revised for new subscribers. These changes go into effect tomorrow, on May 20, and the new prices are as follows:

  • $10.99 USD / €9.99 EUR / £7.99 GBP 1-month plan
  • $27.99 USD / €27.99 EUR / £21.99 GBP 3-month plan

Sony cites ongoing market conditions as the reason behind this price hike. The same reason was used by the gaming giant when console and subscription prices were revised in the past.

Anyhow, the new pricing structure means that 1-month of PS Plus is now up from $9.99 to $10.99 in the US. Similarly, the 3-month plan costs $27.99 in the region, up from $24.99, with other regions showing a similar price increase of about 10-12%.

The silver lining in this situation is that this price increase is less significant than past PS Plus revisions. Also, Sony’s update shows that only the 1-month and 3-month PS Plus Essential plans are impacted for now.

However, because this may not be the last of PlayStation’s price hikes, it may be best for fans to top up on PS Plus while current prices last. It’s entirely possible that an even bigger revision is coming later down the line.
