Hogwarts Legacy has become the most impressive launch of 2023 so far. The Harry Potter game has captured fans of the franchise, enabling them to immerse themselves in the mystical world of Hogwarts.
The game has been sweeping sales worldwide, and it looks like Hogwarts Legacy owners in the UK are picking the PS5 as their console of preference. As reported by gamesindustry, 82% of physical Hogwarts Legacy copies were sold on PS5 in the UK.
The difference between the two platforms illustrates that PlayStation is generally more popular in the UK, while Xbox can offer more competition in the US gaming market. PlayStation 5 also leads the market with over 30 million consoles sold, which is much higher than the Xbox Series S|X sales figures.
Additionally, Sony has a marketing deal with Hogwarts Legacy for PlayStation consoles. The deal gives PlayStation owners one year of exclusive access to the Haunted Hogsmeade Shop, which includes a cosmetic set, a new dungeon, and more.
Microsoft has likely lost many physical sales due to the popularity of the all-digital Xbox Series S console. Once the sales results factor in digital sales, Xbox should see the percentage share grow from 18%.
Despite the large gap, the latest Harry Potter gaming release has been the best-selling title across both platforms. The new Harry Potter game has also firmly positioned at Steam’s top.
Despite the controversies surrounding Hogwarts Legacy, the critical reception for the game has been fantastic.
Hogwarts Legacy also comes to consoles other than PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X. A Nintendo Switch release is set for July, and older PlayStation and Xbox consoles will also get the game in April.
