Naughty Dog Reportedly Cancelled Game That Caused It To Abandon Last of Us Multiplayer

Story Highlight
  • Naughty Dog has reportedly cancelled yet another game.
  • This game replaced The Last of Us Multiplayer, with the same director leading the new project.
  • The studio still has two major games in development, including the recently revealed Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.

Nearly two full years ago, Naughty Dog announced that it was moving on from its most ambitious live-service project. Following multiple years of development, The Last of Us Multiplayer was cancelled, and Naughty Dog promised to deliver the same passion to the fans through other projects.

According to a report, the studio was working on three brand new games until recently, but one of these games has also been cancelled internally.

Why it matters: The PlayStation team has been attempting to move away from IPs like Uncharted and The Last of Us for a while, but recent attempts have been problematic, to say the least.

The Last of Us Multiplayer Was Said To Merge Online Gameplay And Storytelling

As reported by DanielRPK, a single-player project at Naughty Dog was cancelled three months ago.

Interestingly, this project was led by Vinit Agarwal for around one year, the same developer who was leading The Last of Us Multiplayer. Therefore, the recently cancelled single-player title is believed to have been the same game that replaced Naughty Dog’s live-service spin-off.

Vinit Agarwal also departed from Naughty Dog earlier this year after completing over 10 years of game development at the studio. His departure may have stemmed from two back-to-back cancellations, with the team struggling with its new projects in recent years.

Fortunately, the popular PlayStation studio is still working on two brand new games, one of which is Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet. The identity of the second project is unknown for now, and director Neil Druckmann has asserted time and again that it isn’t The Last of Us Part 3, at least for now.

Last of Us 2 Multiplayer
The Last of Us Part 2 Came Out On PC Recently

Because PlayStation’s live-service ambitions have not been the most successful lately, fans might find themselves saddened by yet another cancellation from Naughty Dog. Perhaps the team would have been better off refining The Last of Us Online instead of moving on from the project altogether.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Currently Selling 2x Faster Than The Biggest JRPGs

Story Highlight
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold over twice as fast compared to other popular JRPGs on Steam.
  • The game beat the likes of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Persona 5 Royal, and Metaphor ReFantazio in first-week sales on Steam.
  • It also edged out the same titles in PlayStation sales, albeit with a smaller margin.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has arguably been the most successful underdog story of 2025 so far, beating all commercial odds and garnering universal acclaim from around the globe, including but not limited to the French president himself.

Furthermore, the JRPG has held off competition from AAA giants like Oblivion Remastered to reach its niche of players, and sales figures reveal that the indie title is selling better than most of the mainstream JRPGs from the past year.

Why This Matters: An Indie JRPG beating AAA titles and GOTY contenders in sales is a good sign for the industry.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has performed well on Steam

According to data from Alinea Analytics’ Rhys Elliott, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has sold over 2x faster than iconic JRPGs like Persona 5 Royal, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Persona 3 on Steam. The Sandfall Interactive title has sold over three times faster than the Persona games.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has even surpassed the first week sales of Square Enix’s juggernaut, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, selling 2.3x more units compared to the recent sequel.

The success doesn’t stop here, as the game has also surpassed the initial sales of the 2024 GOTY contender Metaphor ReFantazio and the popular Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, selling four times better than the latter.

Overall, the game has surpassed a million copies sold across Steam and PlayStation, as per the data.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is an indie victory.

When you add the players it has amassed on Xbox through Game Pass, the JRPG turns out to be a success on all platforms.

And, with the positive reception and fan demand apparent through sales, we are more than likely to get more content from Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 if the developers keep their promise.

RX 9070 GPU Lineup Fails To Appear In Steam Hardware Survey; Outshined By RTX 50 Series

Story Highlight
  • Nvidia’s new RTX 5000 series graphics cards are starting to appear in Steam’s Hardware Survey.
  • On the other hand, the RX 9070 XT GPUs are still nowhere to be seen in the survey.
  • While AMD offers better performance and value at MSRP, limited supply and inflated prices make Nvidia GPUs a better deal for the time being.

Nvidia GeForce RTX 5000 series graphics cards, such as the RTX 5070, 5070 Ti, and the more expensive RTX 5080, are already beginning to appear in the recently released Steam Hardware Survey. However, the same cannot be said for the latest AMD Radeon lineup.

Despite images showing massive stacks of graphics cards that seemed to be in stock before selling out immediately, the Radeon RX 9000 series failed to make a dent in the recent Steam Hardware Survey.

Why it matters: Nvidia traditionally dominates the Steam Hardware Survey. In the past, a not-so-great graphics card like the RTX 4060 was seen at the top of this survey. It seems this trend has remained consistent with the latest GPUs.

Steam Hardware Survey

Nvidia GPUs continue to dominate the top 12 spots in the survey, while AMD chips with integrated graphics are the first to appear in positions 13 and 14. Real-world cost is one of the issues at play here.

The RTX 5070, 5080, and 5070 Ti have made their way into the survey, but the AMD RX 9070 and 9070 XT are nowhere to be found. Moreover, GPUs like the RX 7900 XT, 7600 XT, and more follow a similar trend.

Although the GeForce RTX 5070 should have cost the same as the Radeon RX 9070 at MSRP, it currently sells for $553, while the cheapest Radeon RX 9070 card available now costs about $664.

On the other hand, the Radeon RX 9070 XT should only cost $50 more than the RTX 5070, but due to limited supply, the most affordable card available is $742. When it comes to real-world pricing, the RTX 5070 is now a better deal, which is reflected in Steam’s survey.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see if these GPUs show up in the survey within the next few months.

AMD has certainly been pleased with the reception of the RX 9070 series so far, but it seems the gaming giant has not been able to break Nvidia’s hold on the mainstream market just yet.

Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 VA Confident In Winning GOTY Following GTA 6 Delay

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 getting delayed opened the doors for publishers who previously were scared to compete with the game.
  • Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 VA now believes that they have a solid chance at winning the GOTY award.
  • Still, they’ll have to go up against games like Split Fiction, Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, and more.

Many had already foreseen GTA 6’s delay for quite some time now, since Rockstar Games was practically silent on the release. While the decision might be disappointing for fans, publishers are rejoicing that they won’t have to compete with such a colossal release anymore.

Following GTA 6’s delay, Kingdom Come Deliverance 2’s VA thinks that they have a chance at sweeping the GOTY award.

Why it matters: Even the most solid releases are scared of GTA 6 showing that nobody doubts Rockstar Games’ ability to deliver consistently. However, with the game’s delay, other titles may have a shot at taking the spotlight.

Sir Hans Capon VA Confident In Securing GOTY Award On X

Luke Dale, voice of Hans Capon, cited GTA 6’s delay, saying “they’re in for a shot” at GOTY.

However, even with GTA 6 out of the equation, they’d still have to face pretty tough competition since 2025 has seen some of the strongest releases in recent times.

Among the notable examples are Split Fiction and Clair Obscure: Expedition 33, with their near-perfect scores. Oblivion Remastered is also another competitor, and we’re not even halfway through 2025.

Still, if Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 wins the GOTY award, it would be an impressive achievement for Warhorse Studio that an AA game topped some of the best releases of 2025 with a mere budget of $40 million.

Regardless, the game has already been a massive success and a record breaker. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is now within the 50 most popular games on Steam with a peak player count of over 250k players.

Analyst Claims That GTA 6 Delay Is A Nightmare Scenario For The Gaming Industry

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 has been delayed to next year, causing commotion in the gaming world.
  • An analyst has claimed that this is a nightmare scenario for the industry.
  • Following the unexpected and brutal price hike from Xbox, this took the world by surprise.

Many may still not believe it, but GTA 6 has been delayed to 2026, even though Rockstar made many claims that this game is set to release this year. The company reassured its fandom many times that the release window won’t change, but here we are.

While it is not surprising that his game has been delayed, as there was literally no update or new trailers from the gaming giant, it seems to be a disaster for the gaming industry. A popular analyst seems to believe that this is a nightmare scenario following the price hikes from Xbox.

Why it matters: GTA 6 is arguably the most hyped and anticipated title of all time, so its delay has caused turmoil in the industry and, of course, frustrated many fans.

Analyst On GTA 6 Delay
Mat Piscatella Thinks GTA 6’s Delay Is A Nightmare For The Video Game Industry

Mat Piscatella, a well-known analyst in the industry, has shared his thoughts regarding the delay of this year’s most anticipated game. He previously said that the upcoming GTA could be the most important game ever released in the industry.

“Well, this week has certainly been nightmare scenario territory for the video game industry forecast. I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue. And C’mon people. It was ‘survive TO 25’ not through.”

-Mat Piscatella

He further states that this delay doesn’t mean more money will be available for other games this year. It means that the money that would have been spent on gaming this year has just disappeared.

GTA 6
As per an insider, Rockstar didn’t seem very confident in the 2025 release window despite several claims.

He is uncertain about the gaming market now as Xbox recently announced a massive price hike for its consoles and controllers. It has also announced that the upcoming first-party titles will now cost $80, which has further caused commotion among the fandom.

Bad things have happened so fast to the gaming industry that it may seem like a difficult year. However, even without GTA 6, there are a bunch of games to look forward to, so the delay may not be as bad as many are thinking

What do you think about Rockstar straight-up delaying the game to 2026? Do you agree with one of the most renowned analysts? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums to discuss it in detail.

GTA 6 Delayed To Avoid Crunch At Final Development Stages Since The 2025 Release Window Didn’t Seem ‘Real’

Story Highlight
  • GTA 6 has been delayed to May 2026.
  • Management at Rockstar never believed in a fall 2025 release window from the start.
  • The delay was a desire from their end to avoid brutal crunch time.

With mere months away from launch, fans were expecting new gameplay details on GTA 6, but Rockstar had other plans. Unsurprisingly, the game was delayed, but nobody expected a pushback to May 2026, almost eight months later than its initial launch date.

Meanwhile, the development team wasn’t confident in a 2025 release from the start. In fact, the delay was their desire to avoid a brutal time crunch.

Why it matters: Being the most anticipated video game release ever, GTA 6 will potentially be on a scale never seen before. As such, Rockstar Games will take its sweet time in order to prepare for fans’ expectations.

Nobody I’ve talked to at Rockstar has believed Fall 2025 was a real window for a very long time now. Too much work, not enough time, and what appears to be a real desire from management to avoid brutal crunch. GTA VI slipping to 2026 has seemed inevitable for months if not longer

Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier.bsky.social) 2025-05-02T11:40:06.661Z

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier recently took to social media to discuss GTA 6’s delay. According to him, Rockstar’s management didn’t believe in a Fall 2025 release from the very beginning

According to the reporter, management had too much work and too little time to deliver. As such, the management requested the delay, and as Rockstar mentions in their message, it would be to deliver the level and quality fans deserve.

GTA 6 May Set A New Precedent For Game Prices

That said, more information on the game is expected to arrive soon. Contrary to reports earlier that the game will receive a short marketing window, Rockstar Games may have to change their plans and showcase tidbits of GTA 6 to please fans, since the delay has caused a lot of disappointment.

Still, if GTA 6 needs a delay, it would be for the better since Rockstar’s track record has shown that they have never compromised on quality, and the next entry in the GTA series is also set to be the biggest in gaming.

Rockstar Games finally shared an update today, and everyone’s worst fears have come true. GTA 6 has been officially delayed to 2026.

Game Pass Price Hike Is Next From Xbox, Insider Suggests

Story Highlight
  • Following increased prices for consoles and first-party games, Xbox is potentially gearing up to increase Game Pass costs.
  • PS Plus already saw a price hike recently, so it wouldn’t be a surprise for Xbox to do the same.
  • This would be the second time Game Pass has seen an increase in price in less than a year.

In the face of economic turmoil and soaring video game development costs, the industry is spiralling downward as gaming becomes increasingly expensive.

Just recently, Xbox announced a major price hike, with first-party games now costing $80. The Xbox Series S|X consoles have also increased in price, with the Series X now costing more than a PS5. Amid the chaos, an insider suggests that gamers should also brace themselves for a Game Pass price hike.

Why it matters: The biggest reason Game Pass is so successful is its excellent value. For a marginal cost, gamers can have access to hundreds of AAA games. However, an increase in price could potentially force users to reconsider whether they should proceed with the subscription.

Insider’s Sassy Remark On No Game Price Changes, For Now || Resetera

On ResetEra, while discussing the price hike for the console and first-party games, one user mentioned that Game Pass didn’t see any change in its prices. However, Shinobi602, a well-known insider, replied with a sarcastic remark, implying that Xbox may have more disappointing news to announce soon.

PlayStation also recently announced that it will be bumping up PS Plus costs for 15 countries. Hence, it wouldn’t be surprising if Xbox decides to follow suit. This would be the second price hike for Game Pass in just under a year.

The last time prices for the subscription service went up was in September 2024.

Next-Gen Console Prices Could Be Way Out Of Normal Consumers’ Reach Soon

Microsoft could potentially wait a while before revising Game Pass prices until the dust settles on the console and game price increases. Moreover, the subscription service is also a major driver for its revenue, so we’ll have to see how the gaming giant approaches this situation.

Lords of The Fallen Studio CEO Says Games For ‘Modern Audience’ Are Path to Extinction

Story Highlight
  • The CI Games CEO doesn’t support games for a ‘modern audience.’
  • He says data reveals that this is a concept that creates a path to extinction.
  • The studio behind Lords of the Fallen even revealed that it would never integrate political agendas into its games.

‘Modern audience’ has become an increasingly common term in the gaming industry over the past few years. While it isn’t clear what the term exactly means, many studios reveal that their releases have been made to cater to modern audiences.

However, the Lords of the Fallen studio CEO claims that the concept of the modern audience is wrong, and instead of helping the cause, it is a path towards extinction.

Why it matters: Catering to the modern audience requires a lot of additions to games, where companies like Sweet Baby Inc. and other consultancies come in, and fans don’t usually take those additions well.

Lords of the Fallen studio CEO condemns the concept of a modern audience.

CI Games CEO, Marek Tyminski, took to X to demonstrate how this concept hurts studios and could lead to extinction. At the time of the release, the studio even expressed its intention that it wouldn’t add any political agendas to its games.

‘Modern audience’ is a false myth. Data proves it now. Making games for them is a path to extinction.

– Marek Tyminski

The developer even revealed that the team feared the ‘DEI Bogeymen’ would come after the game. The title was decently received, but it wasn’t exceptional because it didn’t do anything out of the ordinary.

The studio revealed it won’t add political agendas to its games.

Recently, the director of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 was also asked about catering to the same audience with its releases. Interestingly, he said that they did hire consultants to ensure that no sentiments were hurt because that could’ve destroyed the game.

However, the ‘modern audience’ remains a huge question, considering games like Concord had the same intention, but they failed miserably. Ultimately, if a game is good and creative enough, it is bound to do well no matter what.

PS5 and PS5 Pro Price Likely To Increase $100-200 Following Xbox Announcement, Says Analyst

Story Highlight
  • Xbox is increasing the prices of both console hardware and games.
  • Analysts expect PlayStation will do the same, charging up to $100-200 more for both PS5 models currently available.
  • The gaming giant is also expected to adopt the $80 game pricing model.

Nintendo recently announced the $80 pricing standard for its most premium AAA titles, leading to plenty of criticism from the community. However, Xbox also followed suit, announcing price hikes for both consoles and games.

Although PlayStation has yet to do the same, analysts predict that it’s only a matter of time before the PS5 and PS5 Pro become more expensive.

Why it matters: The PS5 has already gone through multiple price hikes in the past, but the upcoming pricing changes are expected to be the worst of the bunch.

PS5 Pro New Featured
The PS5 Pro Already Costs $700

As per David Gibson of MST Financial, Xbox’s price hike likely came as a direct result of the recent tariffs imposed by the government.

He predicts that PlayStation will attempt to do something similar soon, with the PS5 consoles expected to see a price increase of as high as $200. Although this prediction is on the higher end, most people agree that a $100 price increment is inevitable.

This means that the PS5 Pro will likely undergo a similar adjustment, making it the industry’s first console to hover very close to the $1000 price point. Moreover, first-party PlayStation games could end up costing $80 by the end of the year.

David Gibson also believes that prices will change at some point this month, leaving fans with little time to prepare for the new era of AAA gaming.

PlayStation
First-Party Games Will Likely Become More Expensive

Fortunately, the PS5 is still relatively cheap for now. The Astro Bot bundle includes the PS5 Disc Edition and Astro Bot for just $450, making it extremely valuable for those hoping to buy the new hardware for upcoming games like GTA 6 and Death Stranding 2.

What are your thoughts on the expected prices this year? Do you think the console industry will suffer as a result of increasing prices? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

French President Praises Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Following Recent Success

Story Highlight
  • Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been raised by the French president.
  • The game’s publisher has also praised Xbox’s marketing efforts.
  • Because of the strong marketing and solid efforts from developer Sandfall Interactive, the game managed to stand tall despite competition from Oblivion Remastered.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been the biggest standout success of the industry this year.

Between shining reviews and impressive sales at release, the game has shattered every expectation possible. In fact, the RPG has even earned praise from the French president.

Why it matters: The recognition highlights how Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is transcending the typical boundaries of gaming. Much like Black Myth: Wukong became a source of pride for all of China, Sandfall Interactive’s work is becoming a huge deal for France.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Is Among 2025’s Highest-Rated Games So Far

As shared on Neogaf, the French president recently showered the RPG with praise on Instagram. He proudly exclaimed that the game stands as a depiction of French boldness and creativity.

You showcase French-style boldness and creativity.

-Emmanuel Macron

This was followed up by praise from the game’s publisher, Kepler Interactive. The publisher also commented on the RPG’s release date coinciding with Bethesda’s launch of Oblivion Remastered, a re-release of one of the finest RPGs produced by the industry to date.

Kepler Interactive commended Xbox for its solid marketing, which did wonders for the game. As for Oblivion Remastered, the publisher understood that Japanese-style and Western RPGs appeal to two different audiences.

Therefore, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 did not suffer due to releasing at the same time as Bethesda’s latest remaster.

Oblivion Remastered Did Not Steal The Spotlight From Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Because the entire industry seems to be impressed by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, perhaps the RPG will also inspire other French developers to channel their creativity into similarly stunning gaming experiences in the future.
