Nintendo Plans To Keep Releasing Games For The ‘100 Million Users” On Switch

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo plans to keep releasing games for the Switch 1 even after the sequel’s launch.
  • The company reveals that the player base for the Switch 1 amounts to 100 million users globally.
  • Major releases like Metroid Prime 4, Hades 2, and more are still planned for the original Switch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is just weeks away from launch. This time around, though, the handheld comes with a significantly higher price tag, thanks to its biggest hardware leap yet, allowing it to run AAA games more smoothly.

But there’s good news for players who aren’t ready to upgrade just yet. Nintendo has announced it will continue supporting the original Switch console.

Why it matters: Even if players are eager to get their hands on the Switch 2, the overwhelming demand might make it tough to find one at launch. This is great news for such a player base, ensuring they don’t feel left out.

Nintendo Forecasts 15 Million Sales For The Switch 1 During Launch Window

Going forward, we will continue to bring out new titles for the over 100 million people worldwide who are playing Nintendo Switch – Nintendo

Nintendo recently published its report for the fiscal year ending in March 2025. The company revealed that it will continue catering to 100 million Switch users worldwide.

Major releases like Metroid Prime 4, Hades 2, Hollow Knight: Silksong, and Pokémon Legends: Z-A are still scheduled to be released on Switch 1

Still, it’s unknown how long Nintendo plans to keep releasing games for the original Switch. The hardware has already started to show its age in the latest releases, so one shouldn’t expect support for more than 2 years.

Moreover, the same report revealed sales for the original Switch, which have surpassed 152.9 million units, which is just 2.1 million away from beating PS2’s record of the highest-selling console to date.

As such, it makes sense for Nintendo to continue supporting the most used console globally. The company expects an additional 4.5 million sales for the original Switch and a further 105 million game sales, twice the number expected for Switch 2.

Doom: The Dark Ages Review Roundup – Another Satisfying Shooter From id Software

Story Highlight
  • Doom: The Dark Ages has received its first official critic reviews.
  • The game has landed at a Metacritic score of 82/100, putting it close to the first two entries of the modern Doom series.
  • Critics have praised the core gunplay and visuals, while the music and enemy variety have received some criticism.

Doom: The Dark Ages marks id Software’s first new release in five years. Following the success of Doom Eternal, this entry comes with the promise of a very focused single-player experience that expands the scope of the franchise and takes it to a medieval setting.

With just a few more days left before release, the official reviews of Doom: The Dark Ages have also been released. As expected, the game has mostly delivered on its promises, marking yet another strong entry for the series.

Why it matters: The current reviews put id Software’s latest work in line with the last two Doom titles.

Between multiple positive ratings, Doom’s latest entry has scored an average of 82/100 on Metacritic. A few of the scores are listed below.

  • WindowsCentral – 10/10
  • Gamespot – 8/10
  • VGC – 8/10
  • Eurogamer – 9/10
  • Tech Raptor – 8/10

Critics have praised multiple elements of the latest Doom experience. For starters, the actual gunplay is better than it has ever been. id Software’s blend of modern and classic first-person shooters has resulted in explosive combat that tops most of what the industry has to offer today.

Similarly, Doom: The Dark Ages’ visuals are top-notch. Thanks to extensive use of ray tracing and id Tech, the game offers incredible visuals for fans to admire while going through waves of demons.

On the other hand, the game’s repetition has been criticized, and some critics have found the slower gameplay less exciting than anticipated. Moreover, the game’s music has disappointed certain players.

Despite the more ambitious open-world approach, the game’s less focused level design has also received some criticism. However, these flaws do not outweigh the positives of the overall experience.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Dev Praises Clair Obscur, Says It Could Sell 8-10 Million Copies

Story Highlight
  • Baldur’s Gate 2 lead publisher says Clair Obscur might sell 8-10 million copies.
  • He says selling 2 million this quickly is an incredible achievement for the studio.
  • Clair Obscur is the highest-rated game of 2025 on Metacritic so far.

The turn-based genre isn’t the most popular among the masses. However, it has been significantly helped by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which proves it can be awesome if done right. The title has become so popular that even other studios are praising it

Baldur’s Gate 3 publisher has praised Clair Obscur and expects the title to sell many more copies, even topping 8 to 10 million units, which could be huge considering it was the debut title for the Sandfall Interactive.

Why it matters: Clair Obscur has gone on to sell over 2 million copies in just a few days, and is still highly popular on Steam, hinting that it’ll definitely sell a lot more in the future.

Baldur’s Gate 3 publisher says Clair Obscur could sell over 8-10 million copies.

Replying to Clair Obscur selling 2 million copies, Baldur’s Gate 3’s publishing lead says this is an ‘incredible achievement’ for the title. He says it can easily sell 6 million copies and even top 8-10 million sales.

This will be a huge feat for the studio if the game hits these numbers. Although selling so much despite being on Game Pass and clashing with The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion Remastered is nothing short of impressive, too.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
The game has already sold 2 million copies in just a few days

Sandfall has done an incredible job, and the title is even the top-rated game of the year so far. The lead developer revealed that it was a passion project because he was bored at Ubisoft and left the company, and the result is quite apparent.

Doom: The Dark Ages Disc Requires Full Download And Internet Connection To Play

Story Highlight
  • Physical copies of Doom: The Dark Ages have fallen into the hands of gamers following recent leaks.
  • They report that the game requires a full data download and an internet connection to play.
  • This is consistent across both PS5 and Xbox Series X versions.

Doom: The Dark Ages is the biggest upcoming blockbuster expected to shake the industry. Featuring the biggest single-player experience in the series and incredibly strong gameplay, this first-person shooter entry could be Doom’s most popular to date.

However, fans of physical games might not be too happy with how Doom: The Dark Ages is delivered on disc. As per reports, an internet connection will be required to install the game.

Why it matters: Requiring an internet connection for games is becoming a common trend, but users who prefer physical copies are usually against this trend.

Doom: The Dark Ages
Doom: The Dark Ages Details via X

With Doom: The Dark Ages expected to launch next week, early copies of the title are already in the wild.

Reports are now flooding X and various other websites, with multiple users indicating that id Software and Bethesda do not include the full game on disc. In fact, the PS5 copy is limited to just 85MB of data.

As such, it seems Doom: The Dark Ages will require a full download, even for owners of the physical edition. The PS5 box art also states that an internet connection is required to play the game.

Although many believe the internet requirement will be limited to the first boot, Bethesda and id Software have yet to offer clarification on the matter.

Doom: The Dark Ages
The PS5 Copy Shows A Big “Internet Required” Disclaimer At The Bottom Left

The situation is expected to be similar on Xbox, with the disc containing just 324MB of data. This means that neither version of the game offers a satisfactory physical edition.

On one hand, this approach will allow Bethesda to prevent leaks ahead of the game’s upcoming release. However, those with slower internet will receive no benefit from opting for the physical release instead of the digital edition.

What are your thoughts on these details? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Majority Fans Say 30 FPS In Games Is Acceptable With Good Frame Pacing

Story Highlight
  • Fans say that while they prefer 60 FPS, 30 FPS in games is totally acceptable.
  • If 30 FPS is implemented well with consistent frames, it can provide a smooth gameplay.
  • The debate has once again emerged after GTA 6 is claimed to be locked at 30 FPS.

Rockstar recently dropped the second trailer for GTA 6, and based on the visuals, analysts predict it will be locked to 30 FPS. This has again raised the question of whether 30 FPS is good enough for games in 2025, when 60 FPS has become the standard.

According to a survey, most fans believe that 30 FPS is acceptable when the frames are smooth and consistent, as it generally leads to a good experience.

Why it matters: 60 FPS is notably smoother than 30 FPS, but having the latter is consistent, it can deliver a very good gameplay, especially with single-player games.

In a thread on NeoGAF, fans revealed that while they do prefer 60 FPS, 30 FPS isn’t something that has held them back if the game is good. However, while it’s fine with single-player games, a higher FPS is necessary for multiplayer.

Fans say that 30 FPS is fine as long as the frame pacing is good, and the FPS is locked at that number. They also say that it depends on the game, like with third-person titles, the lower FPS is much more acceptable.

GTA 6
GTA 6 could be locked at 30 FPS, according to analysts

Nonetheless, based on the hardware we have now, 60 FPS is achievable in most games, achievable. Some titles like Hellblade are so cinematic that 30 FPS feels much better for them. So, while 30 FPS is fine, 60 FPS should now be normal.

The GTA 6 trailer was entirely captured on a PS5, which is still highly impressive. While the analysts say it’ll be locked at 30 FPS, it’ll be appreciable if somehow Rockstar manages to hit the higher FPS at least with the Pro console.

Previews Hint That Death Stranding 2 Story Could Take Up To 75 Hours To Beat

Story Highlight
  • Death Stranding 2 previews were just recently released, and they are highly positive.
  • The game is set to release in just over a month, but we still aren’t sure of how much time it will take to complete.
  • One of the previews mentioned that it took them 30 hours to complete 40 percent of the story, which implies that it will take up to 75 hours to complete the main story.

Death Stranding 2, one of the most hyped releases this year, is finally being released in just over a month. Just recently, many people got the privilege to test out the first 30 hours of the game, and each one of them has done nothing but sing praises of this spectacular title.

That said, one of the previews mentioned that the 30 hours they played represent 40 percent of the story. This could mean that the overall story may take up to 75 hours to complete.

Why it matters: Death Stranding takes around 40 hours to beat, so it would mean that its sequel is almost double in size.

Hideo Kojima Death Stranding 2
Death Stranding 2 Previews Hint Toward A Solid Release From Hideo Kojima

Eurogamer mentioned in its preview that “The 30 hours I played represent around 40 percent of the story”. If we take into account that it took them 40 hours to complete 40 percent of the story, it is possible for the overall story to reach the conclusion in a total of 75 hours

However, this sum isn’t perfectly accurate as we have no means of confirming it for now. The first half of the story could have a slow progression as compared to the other half, which may be relatively quicker to finish, or it could be the complete opposite

This is mere speculation, but it seems highly likely to be true. Also, note that this only includes the main story and not the side quests. As Death Stranding 2 is an open-world game, it may take a lot of your time to complete it 100 percent

It is also worth noting that Eurogamer may have gone for other side quests, which could have prolonged getting to the 40 percent point. However, the main point is that this game features more content than its predecessor.

What do you think about this speculation? How long do you think Death Stranding 2 will be? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

Fans Are Relieved That Mafia: The Old Country Doesn’t Feature Your Average Bloated Open-World

Story Highlight
  • Hangar 13 just recently revealed that Mafia: The Old Country doesn’t feature an open world.
  • Fans criticised Mafia 3 a lot due to the fact that its open world was bloated and boring.
  • That is why the fandom is now relieved that the upcoming game in the series will feature a linear world.

Bloated open worlds in video games have become the norm, and gamers are now getting sick of it. Not every game needs to feature an open world. While this setting is a must for some games, not every developer should just push it into every single game.

Mafia 3, despite being an excellent game, was highly criticised due to featuring the bloated open-world formula. Fans even compared it to the Ubisoft games and reached the conclusion that this formula doesn’t belong in Mafia games. That is exactly why fans are relieved to know Mafia: The Old Country features a linear progression and world.

Why it matters: Fans were highly concerned that the upcoming Mafia would also feature an open world due to the latest game in the series. However, now they are celebrating the fact that there is nothing to worry about

Mafia: The Old Country Linear World
Hangar 13 Has Confirmed That Mafia: The Old Country Will Feature A Linear World

In an official FAQ page on Mafia: The Old Country’s website, one question was asked: “Does Mafia: The Old Country feature an open world?” The developer confirmed that it doesn’t, and that would be enough to make the fandom excited. The developer said, “No. Mafia: The Old Country is a linear, narrative-driven game.”

Story-driven game without an open world or multiplayer? That’s fine by me.

-A Fan Said

Mafia 2 is considered the best game in the franchise, and of course, that isn’t just because it features a linear world but also because it has excellent storytelling. Now, fans are speculating that a similar situation will be the case with the upcoming title.

The developer could have made the open world work with it, but we all know a Mafia game needs to be linear.

$50 with no bloated open-world bulls**t, I’m all in!

-Another Fan Said

While the majority of the fandom is celebrating this game’s linearity, some have shown disappointment. A fan said, “Disappointing. Using 9 years to give us a linear 6-hour-long game.” Needless to say, the user has attracted a lot of criticism in the replies

What do you think about Mafia: The Old Country, featuring a linear world instead of the average bloated one? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

GTA 6 Is Deserving Of $80 Compared To Titles Currently Going For That Price Tag, Says Ex-Rockstar Dev

Story Highlight
  • The former RDR2 and GTA 5 animator claims that GTA 6 is the one game deserving of a $80 price tag.
  • He uses the example of Mario Kart World, asking whether such a title can even compare with GTA 6 despite costing $80.
  • While reacting to Trailer 2, the ex-developer was shocked by how much Rockstar has improved the game since the last trailer.

GTA 6 finally got its second trailer two days ago, with the studio affirming that it featured equal parts cutscenes and gameplay. It’s clear that gamers are hyped, but an ex-Rockstar developer goes as far as to argue that no game comes close to the anticipated title

Commenting on the new pricing standard propelled by Xbox and Nintendo, the former RDR2 and GTA 5 animator, Mike York, claims that GTA 6 is the one title that deserves the $80 or whatever higher price tag Rockstar chooses.

Why it matters: An ex-Rockstar developer argues that the new pricing standard for AAA games is unfair because only GTA 6 earns it, compared to the current titles vying for it.

In an in-depth analysis of trailer 2, Mike York comments that other games launching for $80 to $90 do not bring the same level of features and mechanics compared to GTA 6.

He questions whether Nintendo’s Mario Kart World competes with Rockstar’s upcoming magnum opus despite costing $80.

All these other games that come out for 70 bucks, 90 bucks; I mean look you’ve got Mario Kart for $90 – you think Mario Kart competes with a game like this? as far as how much stuff they’ve got to put into a game?

In the reaction, Mike York was surprised by how much GTA 6 has improved since the first trailer. The lighting is especially superior, along with many other smaller details that have stunned the gaming industry.

Other publishers are fearing to clash with GTA 6’s launch window regardless of the nature of their games.

Rockstar Games has still not revealed an exact price tag for GTA 6, but analysts suspect it could range from $70 to $100. However, the fans have always been divided on whether such a high price is worth it, despite the former developer’s words.

Do you think GTA 6 will cost more to meet the new pricing standards of Nintendo and Xbox? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Mafia: The Old Country Shows Action-Packed Gameplay In New Trailer; Costs Just $50 At Launch

Story Highlight
  • Mafia: The Old Country’s latest trailer is full of action-packed and highly cinematic gameplay.
  • It confirms an August 8 release date and a $50 launch price for the title.
  • Take-Two states that this price reflects the game’s status as a linear title that does not require a huge time commitment.

Following the previously teased gameplay trailer, Mafia: The Old Country has received various details today.

Hangar 13 has shared exciting new gameplay of the title, revealing various action-packed sequences and story moments. Moreover, the team has confirmed the official August 8 release date for Mafia: The Old Country.

Why it matters: Mafia: The Old Country already has plenty of buzz behind it, and the latest trailer has only increased the excitement.

The gameplay highlights Hangar 13’s approach to key story beats and gameplay pacing.

Mafia: The Old Country features various segments where the game transitions from slower, more deliberate stealth segments to explosive action-packed sequences. All of this is done while maintaining the game’s cinematic flair.

Among the most exciting moments, the trailer highlights chases on horseback, melee combat, and more. All in all, Mafia’s latest iteration looks to be every bit as high-octane as fans had expected.

Hangar 13 also confirms that the game will be much cheaper than anticipated. Priced at just $50, the title is breaking away from the trend of $80 releases from major publishers like Xbox and Nintendo.

As per Take-Two, the price is indicative of the game’s linear nature. The publisher states that Mafia: The Old Country will not be a huge time sink for players, something which is reflected in the price.

Those willing to spend a bit more on the game can opt for the $60 Deluxe Edition, which comes with various outfits and cosmetics. These cosmetics should also be purchasable separately since the ESRB previously teased in-game purchases for the title.

Hideo Kojima Already Prepared Death Stranding 3 Concept But Someone Else Will Lead The Project

Story Highlight
  • Hideo Kojima has stated in a new interview that the concept for Death Stranding 3 is already prepared.
  • However, the Kojima Productions boss won’t be the one to develop the game, as he is focused on the studio’s other projects.
  • The concept has already been passed to someone else, so that the project might start developing soon.

After the original Death Stranding, many fans have been hyped for the sequel that has been in the making for years. While the entry is only a few weeks away, the director, Hideo Kojima, has dropped a new bombshell that Death Stranding 3 will also happen.

The mastermind behind Metal Gear Solid has clarified that a concept for Death Stranding 3 has already been prepped. However, he has declined to helm the project, and it has been passed to ‘someone else.’

Why it matters: A concept for Death Stranding 3 already being ready before the second entry’s release means we might get a sequel earlier than anticipated, but no explicit details are clear.

Death Stranding 2
Death Stranding 2 is becoming a highly anticipated release this year.

In an interview with VGC, Hideo Kojima mentioned that the concept for Death Stranding 3 is ready based on how the story will progress in the upcoming game. But someone else will direct it because Kojima is handling multiple other projects.

I already have a concept for another sequel. I am not going to make it myself, but if I passed it on to someone else, they could probably make it.

-Hideo Kojima

Hideo Kojima even iterates that multiple or countless sequels are technically possible based on a concept introduced in Death Stranding 2 called Plate Gates. These sequels could take place in various countries and locations around the world.

If I use this Plate Gate concept, I could make endless sequels. I, of course, don’t have any plans to do that.

Death Stranding 2
Hearing anything significant about Death Stranding 3 may take a few years.

However, nothing beyond that has been confirmed about Death Stranding 3, so it might be quite different than the first two entries. Kojima Productions is currently working on the Xbox game OD and a new action-espionage PlayStation title, Physint.

Do you think Death Stranding 3 will feature different gameplay elements than the first two games? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Microsoft Is Working On Emulation Technology That Would Allow Legacy Xbox Games To Run On Any Device

Story Highlight
  • Microsoft is hiring a Principal Software Engineer to help with emulation for running legacy Xbox games across all platforms.
  • This is a huge step for game preservation.
  • The role would be part of a huge impact that would combine the Xbox and Windows gaming ecosystem.

Xbox has changed much of its strategy over the past year, aiming less towards competition and more towards accessibility and reaching new audiences.

Their latest attempt is now also another step in the multiplatform strategy, but at the same time, securing the future of game preservation. Microsoft is currently looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help develop emulation technology that would help run legacy Xbox games on any device.

Why it matters: Game Preservation has become an increasing concern in the gaming industry ever since the digital push became more prominent. This new emulation technology would ensure that these games are still playable for generations to come on any device.

The job description reads that the said employee will implement the Xbox Backwards Compatibility security system to protect game assets, but also improve the experience for the customers at the same time.

Furthermore, this opportunity is just a starter for the more broader impact across the Xbox and Windows ecosystem. The gaming giant previously mentioned that it desires to merge the best of both worlds into one, starting with Project Kennan, the first handheld they’re releasing this year.

For their own platform, Microsoft has already been a huge ambassador of backwards compatibility with the Series X|S consoles being able to run most of the past Xbox games, no matter what generation. The consoles can also run the PS2 emulation software, but that requires a workaround.

Combining their multiplatform strategy, older Xbox games would now be accessible to all players. This means that titles that were previously exclusive to Xbox will be playable in the future on all devices.

The company’s previous generative AI technology, dubbed “Muse” could potentially also play a huge role in this regard, as said by Phil Spencer himself.
