Silent Hill f Has Potential To Be The Best Game In Series, Reveal Previews

Story Highlight
  • Most of the publications that have reviewed Silent Hill have nothing but praise for it.
  • Some of them have even called it a solid GOTY contender, and that it has the potential to be the best game in the series.
  • The game has received some criticism due to its tough boss fights.

Next month, two of the highly anticipated horror games are set to release, and Silent Hill f is one of them. The game’s previews were just recently released, and they are overwhelmingly positive, with many even claiming it to be a solid GOTY contender after just playing the first five hours of it.

Those who got to play the demo had one concern in common: the stamina mechanic was annoying, and a boss fight was too difficult. This made them compare it with the Soulslike Games. Despite that, some previews highlight that it has the potential to be the best game in the series.

Why it matters: The original Silent Hill and the second part are considered some of the best horror games out there, so it would be pretty hard to top such games in the franchise, which makes such claims even more impressive.

The preview mentions how gorgeous the game is and that it has the potential to become the best game in the series.

There was still some speculation as to if the series was truly “back.” I’d now go so far as to say it’s not only back, it’s stronger than ever, and that Silent Hill f has the potential to be the best game in the series.

It should be noted that the publications only played the first five hours of the game, and that was enough for them to hail it as a solid GOTY contender and potentially the best game in he series. That is a pretty solid compliment, but we can’t really judge a game with just the first five hours.

The Upcoming Silent Hill Game Has Exceeded All Expectations

The Silent Hill series is pretty popular and has some of the best games in the horror genre. So, surpassing them it would be a much bigger challenge, but if Silent Hill f manages to do so it would surely be a solid GOTY contender.

Bioshock 1 Remake Canceled By 2K Earlier This Year Amid Ongoing Franchise Turmoil

Story Highlight
  • Bioshock 1 Remake was apparently real but got shelved by 2K Games earlier this year.
  • The project’s cancellation likely came as a result of Bioshock 4’s development turmoil.
  • It is speculated that the Bioshock 1 Remake was deep into development and was supposed to be announced soon.

These are challenging times for the Bioshock franchise, especially after recent reports have revealed that the fourth entry has been facing a troublesome development, despite more than a decade of work.

There may be some more unfortunate news for fans of the franchise. The long-rumored Bioshock 1 remake has now been confirmed to be real, but was unfortunately shelved by 2K Games earlier this year, quite possibly due to the production struggles revolving around the fourth entry.

Why it matters: Fans have been demanding a Bioshock 1 remake for years now. Such a remake would be a perfect way to introduce the franchise for newer fans while 2K Games works on the next iteration, which is still years away.

Bioshock Infinite Rapture
Bioshock’s Art Deco Is A Timeless Piece Of Work

According to Bloomberg, their sources confirm that Bioshock 4 was canceled earlier this year. Rumors of the remake date all the way back to 2021, when a Bioshock RTX Remaster was mentioned in a Nvidia GeForce leak.

Previous reports also suggested that 2K Games was preparing to announce the Remake this year. As such, it is speculated that the title was deep into development, quite possibly even nearing a release.

Clockwork Revolution
Bioshock Fans Need To Keep An Eye Out For The Upcoming ‘Clockwork Revolution’ Game

A cancellation this late only implies that 2K Games meant to cut down budget costs, especially after the poor state Bioshock 4 is in. Still, it’s a shame that the project had to be shelved, given how much fans anticipated it.

Bioshock 4: 2K Replaces Leadership After Failed Internal Review Despite 10+ Years Of Development

Story Highlight
  • Bioshock 4 developer studio Cloud Chamber recently failed an internal review at 2K Games.
  • The publisher reinstated the game’s leadership because they were unhappy with the progress.
  • The current version of the game started in 2019, with overall development spanning more than a decade.

Despite being one of the most iconic FPS franchises, Bioshock Infinite was the last game in the series released in 2013. That doesn’t mean 2K Games hasn’t been working on a follow-up.

Announced in 2019, BioShock 4 has now spent over a decade in development. Recent reports suggest the game is stuck in development hell, with publisher 2K Games unhappy with its progress, prompting them to shake up the project’s leadership.

Why it matters: It’s not a good sign for a game’s leadership to get changed after more than a decade. A creative conflict may end up making the project’s situation even worse.

Bioshock Creator Working On A New Project Titled ‘Judas’

As reported by Bloomberg, 2K leadership wasn’t pleased with the project’s development, with the narrative being the biggest area of development that desperately needed an improvement.

As such, Cloud Chamber studio head Kelley Gilmore has been ousted, with creative director Hogarth de la Plante shifted to a publisher role. Cloud Chamber has also been notified that they need to be more agile and efficient, or else the studio may face layoffs soon.

2K Games has also issued a statement to Bloomberg regarding the future of Bioshock 4’s development.

We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future, — Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one

The current version of the new Bioshock game was started in 2019, right after Cloud Chamber studio was established. The new BioShock has yet to receive an official title, and given its troubled development, its release may be pushed even further beyond the previously expected 2028 window.

THQ Nordic Open To Making New Gothic Games, But The Remake Comes First

Story Highlight
  • THQ Nordic stated that the success of the Gothic 1 Remake is necessary before they will consider making new Gothic games.
  • The original developer, Piranha Bytes, shut down in 2024. A new team would be needed for any future sequels.
  • The Gothic 1 Remake is set to launch early 2026.

THQ Nordic is putting the spotlight on the highly awaited Gothic 1 Remake, saying its success is key before they move forward with any new Gothic games. In an exclusive interview with our team, THQ Nordic said they’re open to making new Gothic games, but only after the first game’s remake is finished.

Why it matters: Modern Gothic sequels might happen in the future, but right now the main goal is to make a remake that longtime fans will love and that will also bring in new players to the classic RPG.

Gothic 1 Remake Interview Tech4Gamers
So far, everything about Gothic 1 Remake points toward faithfulness.

During an interview with Tech4Gamers, THQ Nordic clarified its stance on the future of the Gothic franchise:

Well, never say never again. We’d certainly love to go there. That’s [Gothic 1 Remake] our complete focus at the moment. Only once that job is done will we look at where the Gothic franchise might go next.

– THQ Nordic

Piranha Bytes, the studio behind the original Gothic, shut down in June 2024. Some of its old team members moved to Alkimia, helping carry on the game’s legacy. But right now, there’s no team actively working on new Gothic games, so making a sequel would mean putting together a new group after the remake is done.

THQ Nordic has also grown the Gothic brand in other ways. In January 2025, they launched a board game called Gothic: A Shadow’s Quest through Gamefound. It takes place in the Colony, before the main hero from the original game shows up.

Right now, Gothic 1 Remake is being developed by Alkimia Interactive. Development has been ongoing for years. In February 2025, the first behind-the-scenes video came out, showing how the team wants to stay true to the 2001 classic while making the world feel fresh and alive.

A second video in April went deeper into what’s changing and what’s staying the same. The team is adding new quests, fixing story gaps, and improving empty areas. They also talked about creating a more “living world”, where NPCs follow routines, react to things, and have hidden details that make the world feel active even when you’re not around.

Alkimia says this is more than just a visual remake. The team is improving the story flow, using motion capture, and adding better animation systems so characters move and respond more naturally.

Anyhow, the Gothic 1 remake is planned for PC and new-gen consoles, releasing early 2026. In the end, whether Gothic gets new modern sequels depends entirely on how well the Gothic 1 Remake does.

What do you think about the prospect of a Gothic 2 Remake in the future? Let us know in the comments below, or on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Gothic 2 Remake Possible After First Game, Says THQ Nordic

Story Highlight
  • Gothic Remake arrives later this year, bringing revamped combat, visuals, and more.
  • THQ Nordic is also interested in remaking the second game.
  • The publisher has ideas in place for a second project but remains fully dedicated to the first remake for now.

Gothic Remake is set to launch sometime later this year, completely revamping this classic RPG along the way. THQ Nordic’s work with developer Alkimia Interactive has resulted in huge upgrades to visuals, combat, and storytelling, and the team has also kept the series’ original charm intact.

Following this very exciting remake, THQ Nordic is even interested in remaking the second Gothic title.

Why it matters: Remakes and remasters have never been more popular, allowing THQ Nordic to continue reintroducing older Gothic titles to new audiences.

In an interview with Tech4Gamers, publisher THQ Nordic discussed plans for the series’ future after the remake.

Although all efforts are focused on making Gothic Remake as excellent and polished as possible, the studio is already considering the potential for a Gothic 2 Remake. In fact, the team suggests that it already has ideas for such a project.

Naturally, we’d love to work on Gothic 2, and we already have lots of ideas. Fortunately, with Gothic 2, there’s far less that needs changing or refining.

THQ Nordic also explained that a remake of Gothic 2 would not need nearly as many changes as the first game because it has fewer story gaps and plot holes.

Gothic Remake
Gothic Remake Is Coming Very Soon

Originally, Gothic 2 launched in 2002, making it over two decades old, like its predecessor. The game continued to build on the original’s foundations and also introduced some much-needed improvements to the core combat and controls.

Because the franchise is held in such high regard and RPGs are thriving at the moment, fans would certainly enjoy seeing another Gothic remake after the first release.

What do you think about a potential second Gothic remake? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Gothic 1 Remake Interview: THQ Nordic on Challenges, Feedback, and What’s Next

Story Highlight
  • Gothic 1 Remake’s developer team switched to Unreal Engine 5 about halfway through development, mainly for its global illumination feature.
  • The team has ideas for a Gothic 2 remake, noting it would need fewer mechanical changes than the first.
  • Character models, especially main NPCs, have been significantly improved since the demo.

It’s not every day a classic RPG gets a second shot at life, but Gothic 1 Remake is shaping up to do just that, and more. We sat down with THQ Nordic to discuss how this long-awaited remake is evolving.

From switching engines mid-development to expanding the world and overhauling systems while staying true to the original’s identity, the team gave us a clear look into the challenges and progress behind the scenes.

In this interview, we asked about the move to Unreal Engine 5, their thoughts on fan expectations, and how they’re walking the line between modern design and Gothic’s signature atmosphere.

We also touched on community feedback, mod support, and the team’s potential plans for a Gothic 2 Remake. THQ Nordic didn’t hold back, offering a transparent look into the work being done to bring Gothic back in a way that feels both familiar and new.

Gothic 1 Remake Interview Tech4Gamers
In Gothic 1 Remake, NPCs and creatures will have daily routines.
How has the transition from the old engine to UE 5 been during the development of the remake? What's your experience been like working with the new engine, and how do you see its advantages? Do you think UE5 gets more bad rep than it deserves?

THQ Nordic: We made the transition to Unreal 5 about midway through the development of the Gothic Remake. We were always keeping a close eye on what was being announced because we were particularly interested in the global illumination feature. We really wanted to have that in our game, and we weren’t satisfied with the solutions available at the time. When we switched to UE5, some of the new features were a bit rough around the edges, but fortunately, Epic keeps improving things regularly.

Unreal does have a reputation for some performance issues. It’s a technology designed to render very high-quality, realistic graphics. That naturally comes at a cost, and if you don’t know how to optimize or don’t have a proper optimization strategy, you end up with a game that doesn’t perform well. Also, the way Epic ships the engine isn’t tailored for any specific game—it’s designed to look incredible out of the box, which might work perfectly for one project but not for many others without significant additional work.

We’ve been working hard on optimizing everything for quite some time now, so it’s not a rush job, and we’re confident we’ll hit our targets.

Newer audiences aren't quite familiar with the Gothic franchise, despite it laying the foundation for IPs like The Witcher or The Elder Scrolls. With this remake, how do you intend to set a new benchmark for the action-adventure RPG genre once again?

THQ Nordic: First of all, we don’t call it an action-adventure. While action elements like combat are a big part of the game, depending on how you play, they’re more or less significant, of course. The Gothic Remake is an immersive open-world RPG. The key thing about Gothic is that many aspects are simulated—how animals and monsters behave, how NPCs act, and so on.

The world isn’t simply a big stage that changes only when the player arrives or whenever it’s needed for main missions. Nor is it a gated experience where players are blocked from reaching certain parts of the world. Everything is open, and progress is limited only by your skill—you can go anywhere if you’re able to overcome the challenges waiting for you there.

Gothic 1 Remake is intended to be faithful to the original, but can we expect any major features or changes that set it apart?

THQ Nordic: The original was so feature-rich that it really holds up well to modern expectations. But we’ve improved and expanded almost all the mechanics. The biggest thing that sets the Gothic Remake apart is the ungated progression and the inclusion of many elements of a truly immersive fantasy-world simulation.

All our NPCs and creatures have detailed daily routines that help create a living, believable world for players to explore.

Fans are excited about a 10-30% increase in world size and unfinished original locations being completed. Which expanded areas are you most excited for players to experience?

THQ Nordic: I’d like to clarify that we didn’t specifically focus on unfinished areas. There are some included where it made sense, like, for example, the Abandoned Mine, which is accessible in the Gothic Remake and an interesting site to explore, but our main approach was to look at places where certain elements weren’t fully developed, or where things didn’t quite make sense or weren’t well explained or integrated.

As we started implementing this new content, it became clear that the world needed to be larger to make room for all the extra detail modern environments demand. I’m particularly excited to see how fans respond to some of the story tweaks we’ve made, the additional side quests we’ve added, and our new treatment of Orc culture.

Do you see Gothic growing beyond the remakes into original modern sequels?

THQ Nordic: Well, never say never again. While we’d certainly love to go there, first we have to succeed with step one: delivering a faithful yet modern remake of Gothic 1 that lives up to fans’ expectations and appeals to new players. That’s our complete focus at the moment. Only once that job is done will we look at where the Gothic franchise might go next.

Given Gothic's strong modding community, how much mod support can we expect? In a past interview, it was said that the devs would hand out a scripting language for players, as Unreal Engine is not ideal for modding. Could you elaborate on how much players could do with this scripting language?

THQ Nordic: We’re using Angelscript, which is integrated in such a way that almost everything possible via Unreal Blueprint is also possible via Angelscript. We’re already using it extensively for a lot of gameplay mechanics. Unreal isn’t ideal for modding because it maintains a strict separation between the data that gets shipped and the data that can be edited.

Can we expect the game to launch later this year, or is the first quarter of 2026 looking more likely now?

THQ Nordic: We will soon say something about that, stay tuned!

If someone has had no prior experience with the franchise, then is it necessary for players to catch up with the original before playing the remake to have the most fun?

THQ Nordic: Not at all. The Gothic 1 Remake goes right back to the very beginning of the franchise—everything starts fresh and is explained. It features the same story, the same world, and the same setting as the original game. That said, if you don’t mind the dated graphics and enjoy older games, definitely check out Gothic Classic—it’s now available on Nintendo Switch!

One of the criticisms I saw on the demo available on Steam is that the characters don't look as good as the environment. Can we expect improvements in that department prior to launch?

THQ Nordic: Absolutely. We started creating the demo about a year ago, and since then, a lot of improvements have been made. We’ve categorised characters into Tiers, with only Tier A having the highest level of detail. These are the main story NPCs, and among the demo characters, only Diego belonged to that Tier. We’re also continuing to work on lots of smaller visual tweaks.

Since the community is largely divided between veterans and new players with varying opinions, are the devs planning to add options like i) A choice between classic and modernized combat with customization options. ii) A choice between old and modernized character controls iii) A customizable field of view.

THQ Nordic: You’re absolutely right—this is definitely the fine line we’re walking: transforming the game into a modern experience while keeping its spirit and atmosphere intact. You can already see how carefully we’re approaching this in the demo—we’ve collected plenty of player feedback and updated the demo a few weeks ago to reflect those demands. That’s our core philosophy: we want to make sure fans are heard. We value their feedback and listen wherever possible.

As for specific options—the field of view is customisable, and so is the camera position, whether centred behind the player or slightly offset to the right. Regarding general controls, we’ll offer one standard approach but allow players to customise their personal experience with controls, settings, and different game difficulty options.

With the Gothic 1 Remake nearing completion and fan anticipation running high, many are already wondering—has your team internally discussed the possibility of remaking Gothic 2 as well? Would continuing into Gothic 2 depend more on commercial success, community reception, or your own creative ambition to retell the saga?

THQ Nordic: At the moment, the entire team is fully focused on finishing the Gothic 1 Remake and ensuring it’s the experience fans are waiting for and deserve. Once that’s done—and by “done” we don’t just mean hitting the release date, because of course we’ll keep listening to player feedback after launch and address any issues—we’ll start thinking about the next steps for the Gothic franchise. Naturally, we’d love to work on Gothic 2, and we already have lots of ideas. Fortunately, with Gothic 2 there’s far less that needs changing or refining mechanically, as it’s already a pretty solid package in my opinion, and it has fewer plot holes or story gaps that need filling. But as I said, first we need to finish the Gothic 1 Remake and make sure players love it.

With the Gothic 1 Remake getting closer to release, it’s clear that THQ Nordic isn’t just bringing back an old favorite; they’re rebuilding it with care and a fresh approach. The developers have updated the gameplay, expanded the world, and added more freedom for players, all while staying true to what fans loved about the original.

We’re glad THQ Nordic has been open about the process. Hearing about the challenges, feedback from fans, and what’s planned helps us understand what to expect. Whether you’ve played it before or are new to the series, the Gothic 1 Remake looks like it’ll be worth the wait.

Silent Hill f Previews Draw Soulslike Comparison Over Boss Fights

Story Highlight
  • Silent Hill f previews recently came out, and they painted quite a positive picture of the game.
  • After just playing it for five hours, some even hailed it as a GOTY contender.
  • However, some previewers have shown concerns regarding the stamina mechanic and a particular boss, which draws comparison to the Soulslike games.

Konami has resurfaced and is making a comeback, perhaps no one expected. The company managed to rise back from its grave, mainly because of the Silent Hill 2 remake. Bloober Team did an incredible job with the remake and continues to attract positive reception for its upcoming survival horror, too.

However, another developer, NeoBards Entertainment, is working on Silent Hill f, another pretty hyped horror game of 2025. Its previews are finally out, and some of them are even hailing it as a GOTY contender. Another point from the previews that caught our attention was that this game was being compared with Soulslike titles

Why it matters: Being compared to a Soulslike can be a good and a bad thing, as not everyone would like it, rightfully so. However, a slight addition wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Silent Hill f Soulslike
Silent Hill f Is Being Compared To Soulslike games

One of the bosses in the demo was challenging for most of the previewers. One of them highlights the difficulty of that boss, stating that it was a complete nightmare. The first concern that appears is the limited stamina.

Often, Soulslike games have limited stamina, which is why they are pretty challenging in nature. However, that mechanic alone can’t be the basis for the comparison. The comparison arises mainly because of how brutal the boss fight was, and the limited stamina made it even harder.

Many spend over an hour just to beat the boss. The delayed regeneration of stamina caused them to be unable to keep up with the boss’s reckless moveset. Also, the boss kept disappearing, which added to the frustration.

Soulslike mechanics in a Silent Hill game may not work because of the survival horror genre. What’s more concerning is that they played only the first five hours of the game, so there could be more such bosses.

That said, a little bit of a challenge in a survival horror game won’t hurt anyone. If the developer patches the stamina issue and increases the speed of regeneration, it might not be as difficult as it seems now.

What are your thoughts regarding some Soulslike elements in Silent Hill f, a survival horror game? Is it a deal breaker for you? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below, or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

Starfield PS5 Port Reportedly Targetting Spring 2026 Launch

Story Highlight
  • A new report reveals the Starfield PS5 port is set to launch in 2026.
  • The game will also receive its second major expansion and various quality-of-life changes around this period.
  • Bethesda reportedly delayed the launch to 2026 after disappointing sales of the RPG’s first expansion.

Xbox has already released many games on the PS5, including Forza Horizon 5 and Indiana Jones. However, one big game still missing from the PS5’s library is Starfield.

Rumors regarding a PlayStation port of the RPG were already showing up last year, but not much has been said officially on the matter. With fans still anticipating a PS5 release, the game is reportedly set to launch on the console in 2026.

Why it matters: Because Bethesda has a history of releasing its biggest RPGs on PlayStation, the studio could see plenty of success from existing fans on the platform.

Starfield
Starfield Saw Millions of Players Across Xbox And PC

According to a report from MP1st, Starfield will not launch on the rival platform in 2025.

This is largely due to less-than-stellar sales of the expansion Shattered Space. Xbox now plans to release the game on PS5 alongside its second expansion next year, which should arrive between March and June.

This version of the game will also launch alongside additional quality-of-life changes. Previously, the RPG received a 60FPS update and vehicles in an attempt to address fan feedback.

Therefore, fans can expect similar changes with the PS5 version next year. This also means that an announcement is not too likely to show up anytime soon. Perhaps this is why Xbox is launching the likes of Gears of War on PS5 for the time being.

Starfield
Starfield Could End Up Being A Huge Hit On PS5

Because Xbox’s games have generally performed well on the PS5, Starfield is likely to end up in a similar situation.

The game could drive additional revenue for Bethesda and Xbox as they gear up for future support and work on The Elder Scrolls 6. Meanwhile, PS5 fans can continue to enjoy the remake of Bethesda’s Elder Scrolls 4 for now.

What do you think about this report? Do you intend to play the RPG on PS5? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Nintendo Increases The Original Switch Price in US; Switch 2 Could Follow Later

Story Highlight
  • Nintendo has hiked the price of all variants of the original Switch and accessories.
  • While Switch 2 prices are the same, the company has warned it may also increase.
  • This has been done based on the current market conditions and the uncertainty.

The recent US tariffs saw a massive increase in prices for different categories of products nationwide. Since then, the market has been very uncertain, with prices fluctuating continuously, and it has had another big impact.

Nintendo has announced that it is increasing the prices of the original Switch across all of its variants, taking ‘market conditions’ into account. Some Switch 2 accessories will also see a price hike, but the console retains the same price for now.

Why it matters: Inflating the price on Switch almost guarantees that we might see the same for Switch 2 later down the line. Nintendo has already started increasing its prices in the global market.

Nintendo has increased the original Switch price in the US.

Nintendo, through an official statement, announced the price increase for the original Switch. The Switch 2, its physical and digital games, and Nintendo Online remain the same, but the company has said that might change in the future.

This means that a potential price hike for the Nintendo Switch 2 is also coming soon. Now, with stock available from many major retailers, this makes it currently the best time to buy a Switch 2, before Nintendo revises and increases the prices.

Nintendo Switch 2
Switch 2 prices are also expected to increase later.

The new prices will be effective from August 3 all around the US. Exactly how much increase each console and accessory will face is yet to be seen. Nonetheless, potential Switch 2 buyers have already been warned.

What are your thoughts on the Switch price increasing in the US? Do you think Switch 2 will follow soon? Let us know your opinions in the comments or join the discussion at the Tech4Gamers forum.

Battlefield 6 Publisher Takes Jab At Call of Duty; Says We Don’t Need Nicki Minaj Skins

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 is finally coming out on October 10, 2025.
  • The title is doubling down on gritty realism.
  • The team has recently jabbed at the Call of Duty franchise, stating that the title doesn’t need Nicki Minaj skins.

Battlefield 6 finally received its multiplayer gameplay trailer yesterday, with a lot more information about the title. Following the reveal, the title has already become the best-selling and most wishlisted game on Steam.

As the Battlefield franchise is known for proper destruction and the latest entry is taking direct inspiration from Battlefield 3 and 4, the developers take a jab at the COD franchise, stating that they are aiming for gritty realism and Battlefield 6 doesn’t need Nicki Minaj skins.

Why it matters: Recently, the developers have also stated that they won’t be adding any cartoon skins in the title as they focus on a core military theme.

EA Confirms Battlefield 6 Will Be Priced At $70.

During a recent interview with DBLTAP, Shashank Uchil, design director of Battlefield 6, discussed several topics, including the title staying grounded and not needing Nicki Minaj skins.

I don’t think it needs Nicki Minaj. Let’s keep it real, keep it grounded.

-Shashank Uchil

In another interview with Video Gamer, the UX director of the game, Alan Pimm, has further discussed the character appearances, stating that the title is all about gritty realism.

At the moment, that package is the ‘gritty realism’ and that we listen. That I cantell you.

Battlefield 6 multiplayer
Battlefield 6 Multiplayer Reveal Goes Beyond Fans’ Expectations.

It appears that the developers are doubling down on the gritty realism and really looking to return to its roots of destruction. While the team didn’t really say no to the skins, it’s likely they won’t be adding celebrity or cartoonish skins to Battlefield 6.

Nonetheless, what do you think about this? Are you excited to get your hands on the title? Let us know your thoughts in the comments or join the Tech4Gamers forum.

Battlefield 6 Ditching Mandatory EA App For Steam Users

Story Highlight
  • Fans were concerned that Battlefield 6 would require the annoying EA launcher to be played on Steam.
  • However, they should be delighted to know that EA has removed that requirement.
  • While on Steam, the requirement no longer exists, the same isn’t the case with Epic Games.

It would be fair to say that Battlefield 6 has exceeded everyone’s expectations with the latest gameplay reveal. The developer has gone back to its roots, as the destruction shown was unreal

Even though many were against pre-ordering the game, it became the best seller on Steam shortly after the reveal. However, fans were concerned that it may still require the EA app to play on Steam, but guess what? That requirement is no longer mandatory. This means that you won’t have to use the EA app along with Steam to play Battlefield 6

Why it matters: The requirement to use a specific launcher for a game from the developer is pretty annoying. If you bought a game on Steam and want to play it on that platform, there shouldn’t be a need to use another launcher.

Battlefield 6 Steam
You won’t Need The EA App To Play Battlefield 6 on Steam | Source: EA FAQs Page

EA revealed that players won’t have to go through the trouble of using the EA App to play Battlefield 6 on Steam, which is pretty solid news. Looks like the developer is pretty serious about hitting the 100 million players mark

Steam players will not need to use EA App to play Battlefield 6, but will need an EA account. Those who purchased Battlefield 6 via the Epic Games Store will need EA App and an EA account to play.

While this is a cause for celebration for Steam, unfortunately, those who will use Epic Games as a launcher to play the game will have to use the EA APP. This requirement has only been removed for the Steam players

Among all the other launchers, EA App is perhaps the most hated one, so getting rid of it was actually the best decision. So, the go-to launchers for players should be Steam if they want to play the upcoming Battlefield peacefully. The game is set to release on October 10th, 2025, for $70, on current-gen consoles and PC.

What are your thoughts about EA finally removing the highly annoying mandatory app requirement? Do you find the EA App annoying to deal with? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion

EA Was So Confident In Battlefield 6 That Even A Potential GTA 6 Clash Didn’t Faze Them

Story Highlight
  • EA was fixated on a Fall 2025 release for Battlefield 6, even if it meant competing with GTA 6.
  • They were pretty confident in their work and investment that they didn’t want to doubt themselves and keep working for a Fall release.
  • GTA 6 is set to sell 85 million copies in just 2 months, which would put the figures near the sales of all Battlefield games at 88 million units sold.

Set to be the biggest video game release ever, GTA 6 seems to be a monstrosity that not even the most prominent publishers like Kojima Productions would want to go against.

That said, there are always exceptions, and in this case, it’s EA. Before finalising a May 2026 release, GTA 6 was set for a Fall 2025 release, the same timeframe as the upcoming Battlefield 6.

Still, EA was ready and more than prepared to go against GTA 6, as Battlefield 6’s release for Fall 2025 had already been set firmly in place.

Why it matters: Battlefield 6 has a lot of expectations, and the future of EA is riding on its back, especially after recent failures. They seem to be quite confident in their FPS release, especially if they were ready to compete with GTA 6.

Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 Already A Top-Seller On Steam Following Multiplayer Reveal

Talking to Variety, EA’s president, Laura Miele, said they were aware of the massive competition they’d face from GTA 6. Still, they wouldn’t be planning to release Battlefield 6 in the same timeframe if they weren’t confident.

We have always have been heads down, unblinking about this fall and executing at a level of excellence

Rather than worrying, they were pretty focused on the development of the game and avoided ‘what if’ scenarios, doubting themselves.

Laura also mentioned the massive investment that went into the game, but a figure wasn’t exactly mentioned. GTA 6 Could Face Another Delay

Fortunately, GTA 6 was pushed to a May 2026 release. Regardless of how great an entry Battlefield 6 will turn out to be, GTA 6’s side-by-side release would have crushed it in comparison.

Analysts predict 85 million copies sold for GTA 6 in just two months. For just a rough comparison, the entire Battlefield franchise has sold 88 million copies so far.
