The Lasting Appeal of Gaming Gift Cards

Story Highlight
  • Gaming gift cards give players the freedom to choose their own games or in-game content, which removes the risk of buying a gift they won’t use.
  • These cards are available for various platforms, including PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, as well as for specific games like Roblox and Fortnite.
  • You can make the gift feel more special by adding a personal note or timing it with a major sale.

Gaming gift cards are one of the best gifts you can give. They’re simple, flexible, and let the player pick exactly what they want. No more guessing which game they already have or what they’d like to play next. With a gift card, they get to choose, whether it’s a new game, a special skin, bonus content, you name it.

These cards work for everyone. PC players might want a Steam wallet balance, console gamers may prefer PlayStation or Xbox cards, and younger players often love Roblox (Robux) or Fortnite cards (V-Bucks). No matter the platform, you’re giving your loved ones the freedom to pick what excites them most.

That freedom is what makes them timeless, as they always feel useful and never go to waste.

Why Gaming Gift Cards Are A Smarter Choice

Steam gift card design over the years.

Buying a game for someone can be pretty tricky. You may not know what they already own or whether they’ll like it. A gift card removes all that uncertainty. The recipient decides what to get, so your gift always feels right.

This feels personal for gamers. Instead of a generic present, you’re showing support for their passion. It’s a sign that you understand what they love and want them to enjoy it their way.

Another big advantage of gaming gift cards is their ease of use. No need to wrap a heavy box or wait for shipping. Most can be bought instantly online or at stores, making them perfect even for last-minute gifts.

And thanks to modern platforms, buying and sending them has never been simpler. You can purchase and deliver digital gift cards through official stores in just a few clicks, making the process quick, safe, and even fun.

If you like something tangible, physical gift cards are a great choice. You can find them at most stores, tuck them into a personalized card, and hand them over, ready to use right away.

Thanks to modern platforms, getting gaming gift cards with a personalized greeting has never been easier. You can even print greeting cards free from certain online services, making the process quick and fun.

When To Give A Gaming Gift Card

Gaming gift cards are an excellent choice for birthdays and celebrations because they let players decide what they really want. Instead of trying to guess the right game, you give them the freedom to pick for themselves. They can use the card for a new release or buy extra in-game items to enjoy on their special day.

These cards also make perfect holiday gifts, whether it’s summer break or Christmas. Younger players especially love using them for popular games like Roblox, Fortnite, or Minecraft.

Parents often choose them as rewards for good work, and many companies may prefer them as a simple way to show appreciation to employees who enjoy playing video games.

For friends and family who live far apart, digital gift cards are a quick and meaningful way to celebrate together, even when distance keeps you apart.

Making Your Gift Stand Out

If you’re giving a gaming gift card, there are plenty of ways to make it feel more special. A short note, something like “Hope this helps you grab that skin you’ve been eyeing!”, adds a personal touch. Choosing the right platform, whether it’s Steam, PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, or a game-specific store, ensures it matches what they actually play.

You can also include a surprise by slipping the card into a gaming-themed greeting card, a controller case, or even a snack pack. Picking the correct value matters too; consider whether they usually opt for subscriptions or full games and adjust the amount accordingly.

And if you really want to make the most of it, time the gift with a big sale, like the Steam Summer Sale or the PlayStation Holiday Sale, so that they can stretch its value even further.

Gaming continues to evolve, but the value of gift cards hasn’t changed. As digital entertainment grows, these cards allow you to share fun moments with your loved ones.

Gaming gift cards are like thoughtful tokens that say, “I know what you love, and I want you to enjoy it your way.” In a culture where games connect people across the world, that’s quite a meaningful gesture.

Battlefield 6 Dominates Steam Charts While Black Ops 7 Fails to Break Top 25

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 6 remains the second-best seller on Steam, holding strong even 20 days after its gameplay reveal.
  • In contrast, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 sits at the 26th spot, despite its gameplay reveal just three days ago.
  • These rankings highlight that Call of Duty’s long-standing dominance could finally be at risk.

The gameplay reveal of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was unveiled during Gamescom, but it fell short of the fandom’s expectations. Even though the fandom wasn’t really expecting much, it still managed to disappoint them. The game’s trailer was bombarded with dislikes, and the comments section was full of negativity.

On the other hand, Battlefield 6 has won over fans, consistently ranking among Steam’s top three best sellers since its gameplay reveal, while Black Ops 7 has yet to even break into the top 25.

Why it matters: It has been over 20 days since the gameplay reveal of Battlefield 6, while Black Ops 7 was only showcased three days ago. That’s why it’s surprising to see Battlefield holding a much stronger position on Steam’s best-sellers list.

Battlefield 6 Second Best Seller
Battlefield 6 Is The Second Best-Seller on Steam Right Now

As of the time of writing, Battlefield 6 is in the second place on Steam’s best-seller list(Steam Deck doesn’t count because it is not a game). It is below Forza Horizon 5 mainly because of the massive 50 percent discount; otherwise, just recently, Battlefield 6 was the best seller.

On the other hand, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, despite its recent gameplay reveal, has failed to break into the top 25 best-sellers on Steam, sitting at 26th, a rather disappointing position for such a major release

It’s worth noting that around three months remain before the game’s release, so its position on the charts could improve. Still, it’s clear that Black Ops 6 has not generated the same level of excitement and positive reception that Battlefield 6 has enjoyed.

Previously, reports suggested that Activision’s higher-ups don’t view Battlefield as a real threat, believing Call of Duty is simply too big to fail.

However, that confidence may backfire, as even the former Blizzard boss has predicted that EA’s magnum opus could end up crushing Call of Duty this year.

Original Hollow Knight Hits New Peak Player Count Amid Silksong Hype

Story Highlight
  • Hollow Knight has managed to record a new peak player count thanks to the sequel.
  • Silksong’s hype has led players to prepare for the title by revisiting the original game.
  • The sequel finally comes out on September 4 after many years of waiting.

Hollow Knight is widely regarded as one of the best platformers of all time. Released in 2017, the game won everyone’s hearts, and fans were thrilled when a sequel was announced. With just a few weeks till release, the hype is unreal.

Following the announcement of Silksong’s release date, the original Hollow Knight has hit a new peak player count 8 years after release. It was such a long time coming, and fans seem to be preparing to jump into the new adventure.

Why it matters: Platformers and similar genre titles in general don’t attract too big an audience in most cases, so seeing how massively anticipated Hollow Knight Silksong is, it’s great news for Team Cherry.

Original Hollow Knight has managed to hit a new record peak player count

Hollow Knight previously had a peak player count of around 20,000, which it achieved when the last gameplay for Silksong was revealed in 2022. Now, when the launch is closer than ever, it has gotten past 23,000 players on Steam.

So, fans are not only returning to the title, but it is also attracting a new audience, which already poises Silksong on the verge of massive success. In addition, it is also the most wishlisted upcoming game on Steam.

Bungie CEO Steps Down Amid Marathon Development Struggles

Story Highlight
  • Bungie’s CEO, Pete Parsons has resigned from the studio after serving the developer for over two decades.
  • He has left the studio in the hands of leaders from the new generation.
  • With Parsons’ departure, Truman has been assigned as the next leader.

Ever since joining forces with PlayStation, Bungie’s situation has been worsening, with fans questioning whether the $3.6 billion acquisition was worth it or not.

The company has been facing a lot of hurdles ever since it began working on Marathon, a game that may take Bungie to its grave.

Amid ongoing troubles, the CEO of the studio has resigned, suggesting more issues internally.

Why it matters: Bungie is struggling a lot with Marathon as the game has been delayed, and now the fact that the CEO voluntarily resigned has raised some eyebrows.

Insider Says Marathon Is Destined To Fail

CEO Pete Parsons announced his resignation in a new blog on the Bungie website. Parsons served the studio for 23 years and now departs with a heartfelt message to the community, saying the future of Bungie will be in the hands of a new generation of leaders.

Today marks the right time for a new beginning. The future of Bungie will be in the hands of a new generation of leaders, and I am thrilled to announce that Justin Truman will step into leadership as Bungie’s new Studio Head.

As Parsons is stepping down, Justin Truman, the General Manager of Destiny 2, has taken up the CEO position.

Parsons is quite pleased with Truman taking over. He said, “Truman has been instrumental in bringing some of the most memorable moments in Bungie’s history to life.”

After taking the helm, Truman revealed that as the developer is currently focusing more on Marathon and Destiny, more updates regarding both games will be revealed later this year.

As the leadership changes at the studio, the concern regarding Marathon still remains. Hopefully, the developer can proceed with the development more smoothly and ultimately deliver a good experience.

Following these shifts in roles, Bungie will also potentially become a part of PlayStation Studios, abandoning its independent identity.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater Producers Planning More Remakes If Launch Is Successful

Story Highlight
  • Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater producers Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado want to work on more remakes if the game does well.
  • The studio is currently only focused on nailing the launch of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake and remains unsure about the future.
  • The game’s VA has also expressed interest in a new Metal Gear Solid mainline game, suggesting we may see more than remakes.

Konami has confirmed in the past that the Metal Gear Solid franchise will continue to remain relevant in the next 10 to 50 years. Besides aiming for a new mainline game, the developers are already considering other steps to make that goal as feasible as possible.

Now, multiple Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater producers confirmed that Konami is considering more remakes in the franchise if the launch lives up to their expectations. Therefore, the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake’s player and rating reception decides the future of the IP.

Why it matters: The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake’s success could redefine the future of the franchise, possibly starting a streak of remakes for newer fans to experience the stealth-defining IP through the modern lens.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is aiming to be a faithful adaptation of the original.

Speaking to The Kerplunk, the producers confirmed they are currently only focused on getting the MGS 3 remake out to the community. However, if the fans enjoy the launch and demand more Metal Gear Solid, then Konami will absolutely consider more remakes

Once this game is released, if the fans feel they would like to see more from playing the game, then we would like to consider lots of other games in the future. For now, this is it.

-Producers, Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado.

These remarks also line up with plenty of old rumors surrounding more Metal Gear Solid remakes as Konami’s next goal for the franchise after Snake Eater. However, nothing official of the sort has yet been confirmed.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
Rumors about other Metal Gear Solid projects have already existed for a long time in the community.

The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is set to launch on August 28 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Unfortunately, it appears to have been hit by extreme frame rate issues on consoles.

Do you think Konami will start a series of Metal Gear Solid remakes if the third reimagining sells enough copies and generates enough hype?? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Hit By Extreme Frame Rate Issues on PS5 and PS5 Pro

Story Highlight
  • New tests show the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake has frequent frame drops and performance issues on PS5 consoles.
  • The game struggles to maintain 60 FPS, with the PS5 Pro sometimes dipping more than the base console.
  • The visuals on PS5 Pro also look quite blurry at times because PSSR resolves the finer details to a lower resolution.

The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake is one of the most anticipated releases of this year, with many fans wanting to try out the modern take on the stealth-defining entry. However, new testing reveals that console players may not have the best experience.

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater suffers from frame rate dips and other performance issues on PS5 and PS5 Pro. The game fails to consistently stay at 60 FPS, with noticeable drops ruining the smooth gameplay.

Why it matters: Despite receiving a positive score in reviews, the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake also comes with unexpected optimization issues that will hinder the overall experience of the players.

The testing done by Digital Foundry confirms that both PS5 and PS5 Pro versions of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake waver around 60 to 40 FPS, with drops to the 30 range during intense moments.

PS5’s performance mode introduces visual artifacts and a fuzzy look to dense moving details. On the flip side, the quality mode being locked at 30 FPS looks comparatively better, and improved visuals also reduce the visual pop-ins.

The MGS 3 remake runs better on the base PS5 most of the time compared to the Pro variant.

The gameplay looks more enhanced on the PS5 Pro, but the port’s performance also often ends up worse on it. PSSR benefits the visuals but impacts the game’s optimization.

The remake’s finer details on PS5 Pro end up with a lower resolution due to PSSR, giving it that dreaded blurry look that many UE5 games notoriously have.

PS5 Pro also seems to target a lower dynamic resolution range than many expected.

Digital Foundry also claims that they noticed similar performance and frame rate issues on the Xbox Series X during the Gamescom event. Meanwhile, the game is capped at 60 FPS on PC, which has been another point of contention by fans.

The Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is set to release on 28 August 2024, for PC and consoles.

Superman Game Teased by DCU’s James Gunn, With David Corenswet As The VA

Story Highlight
  • DCU Co-CEO James Gunn teases a new Superman game with David Corenswet as the VA.
  • Currently, there are two DC games planned, with the next game at least a couple of years away.
  • With the restructuring at Warner Bros.’ gaming division, it may take some time for Gunn’s plans to move.

James Gunn’s DCU is off to a strong start with the latest Superman movie, which has been a blockbuster and is possibly set to be the biggest comic book movie of the year. Aside from Movies & TV shows, the Co-CEO also has big plans for DC video games, which are set to move side-by-side with the DCU.

Gunn has now teased a Superman video game, and surprisingly, David Corenswet, the actor who plays the Man of Steel, could voice the character once again in the video game.

Why it matters: Fans have yearned for a Superman video game for years. James Gunn could finally make their dreams come true as the Co-CEO prepares big plans for DC games.

Talking to GamesRadar regarding DC’s gaming front, James Gunn teased a few upcoming projects in the near future.

There’s been some slight movement on different things

While a Superman game might just be in the process of planning and talks right now, there are a couple of DC games upcoming in the future as per the DCU Co-CEO. However, at the earliest, expect the next DC game to arrive within 2 years.

This could very well be the Batman game Rocksteady is working on, which is said to be the next iteration in the Arkham franchise.

For future plans regarding other heroes such as Superman, it may take some time. The entire Warner Bros. gaming division faced a restructure recently, so there has been a change in leadership.

As such, the next Superman game could be years away, but will possibly be connected to the overarching narrative from the DCU, as previously teased by Gunn. It’d be nice to have the Dark Knight and Superman both share the gaming screen at the same time.

AMD RX 9070 XT Faces First 12VHPWR Connector Meltdown

Story Highlight
  • A Reddit user reports that his ASRock 9070 XT power cable has melted.
  • Fortunately, his GPU survived as the burnt connector was on the power adapter end.
  • A possible cause could be the underwhelming PSU the user was running, but there’s no denying that the 12VHPWR is flawed.

Joining in on Nvidia is AMD with the first reported melted power connector on its flagship RX 9070 XT.

Unsurprisingly, the RX 9070 XT with the melted power connector was also utilising the notorious 12VHPWR connector. While most of the RX 9070 XT GPUs use an 8-pin connector, a few vendors, such as ASRock and Sapphire, opted for the 12VHPWR connector, resulting in this catastrophe.

Why it matters: The 12VHPWR has developed a bad rep for GPUs because of causes so many problems. Just not being inserted properly can cause the connector to burn due to its short power/ground pins.

UPDATE: Yea it melted…. 12VHighFailiureRate Strikes again.
byu/Savings_Opportunity3 inradeon

The Reddit user reporting this issue had made a post earlier this month reporting that his connector looked a bit dark while replacing the motherboard. The devastating news just came recently regarding the 16-pin connector getting fried.

This was also the user’s 4th time unplugging and plugging the GPU, and he did claim that he wasn’t sure if it was plugged properly, as a properly seated 12VHPWR should be, given its short power/ground pins.

A possible cause could be the Kolink 700W PSU that the user was running, which is not ATX 3.1 compliant. The ASRock 9070 XT has a TDP of 304W, and the vendor recommends an 850W PSU to be safe.

Fortunately, the RX 9070 XT didn’t endure any damage since the burnt connector was from the power adapter side and not the GPU. Moreover, the cable config the user was running was three 8-pin inputs to one 16-pin input.

RTX 5090 Burned Battlefield 6
Almost All RTX 50-Series GPUs Carry A Design Flaw.

This config is known to be more prone to these issues compared to the direct 16-pin to 16-pin connector.

Still, there’s no denying that the 12VHPWR connector itself is inherently flawed. Load balancing is a huge issue when it comes to these connectors.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Review Roundup – Incredible Comeback of A Fan-Favorite

Story Highlight
  • Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake has received incredibly positive reviews so far.
  • The game currently averages a score of 85/100 on Metacritic, putting it on par with Silent Hill 2 Remake.
  • Critics have praised the game’s faithfulness to the original and the new quality-of-life changes.

Konami confirmed Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake more than two years ago, and after unparalleled excitement, the game is finally ready to be released.

Although Hideo Kojima may not be too impressed by the publisher’s work on recreating one of his biggest hits, critics seem to be blown away by Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake in nearly every way. The game’s first reviews are out, and they are quite positive.

Why it matters: Many believed Konami would not be able to capture the soul and charm of Hideo Kojima’s work on Metal Gear Solid with the remake. Similar concerns were raised about Silent Hill 2 Remake ahead of launch.

Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake
MGS3 Remake Has A Lot of Solid Reviews So Far | Image via Metacritic

Currently, the game stands at an average of 85/100 on Metacritic. This puts the remake in the same ballpark as Silent Hill 2, marking another strong release for the publisher. The following are a few of the initial review scores for Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake:

  • IGN – 8/10
  • Gamespot – 9/10
  • Game Informer – 9/10
  • ComicBook – 7/10
  • Noisy Pixel – 9/10

Critics have praised Konami and developer Virtuos’ willingness to stay faithful to the original title in the remake. The game’s visuals and quality-of-life changes have also garnered praise, allowing the remake to strike a balance between the new and old elements.

Perhaps the biggest strength is the fact that many believe Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is now the definitive experience. According to critics, this version makes it hard to imagine playing the original release from 2004.

On the other hand, some have pointed out that the remake carries over the flaws of the original. They argue that Konami could have changed more elements of Metal Gear Solid 3 with this re-release.

MGS3 Remake Brings Major Visual Upgrades

Anyhow, the reception has been largely positive, and Konami is likely to be pleased with the initial reactions. Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake officially launches next week, so it will be interesting to see what general audiences have to say about this re-release.

What do you think about the review scores? Did they live up to your expectations? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Sony Is Discounting PlayStation 5 In China Amid Recent Price Hike

Story Highlight
  • Sony has announced a price hike for the PlayStation 5 in the US, citing changing economic conditions.
  • At the same time, the company revealed discounts for the base PS5 models in China.
  • The contrasting decisions have sparked controversy among fans, as both announcements were made simultaneously.

Price hikes in the gaming industry are almost always met with backlash, as fans dislike paying more for the products they love. Recently, Nintendo raised the prices of its games and largely ignored player feedback.

Meanwhile, Microsoft faced a similar situation when it attempted to increase its game prices to $80. The backlash was so intense that the company reverted to its original pricing. Sony has avoided raising game prices so far, but it did recently increase the price of PS5 models in the US. Interestingly, in contrast, the company has discounted the console in China.

Why it matters: This inconsistency is bound to frustrate fans. While tariffs play a role in regional pricing, many players won’t care about those details; seeing price hikes in one region and discounts in another will only fuel more criticism.

Sony Discounted PlayStation 5 In China
Sony Has Discounted The PlayStation 5 Base Models In China, While Increasing Prices In The US

Daniel Camilo on X pointed out that Sony’s PlayStation 5 discounts in China will begin on August 25. The timing of this announcement caused some confusion, as it was made alongside the US price hike, leading some fans to believe the discount had already gone live.

According to Camilo, starting August 25, the PS5 Digital Edition will be priced at $390, while the disc version will cost $474. This contrast is likely to spark even more controversy, given that Sony just raised PS5 prices by $50 in the US.

It is worth noting that Sony has not mentioned whether the discount applies to the PlayStation 5 Pro.

Since the model was not referenced in the announcement, it appears that only the base versions, both Digital and Disc, are being discounted. Even so, this remains a significant move for the Chinese market.
