Lost Soul Aside Can’t Even Maintain 20FPS On PS5 Quality Mode, Leak Reveals

Update:

As a recent leak revealed, there were some performance hiccups in the game. To address this, the developer has announced that a day-one patch will be available at launch to ensure players get the most refined experience possible.

The update will include “comprehensive performance optimizations and stability improvements, visually enhanced effects, and audio refinements.”

Original Story:

Story Highlight
  • Lost Soul Aside has been in development for 11 years, and it is finally releasing this week.
  • A user with an early copy has revealed that it has severe performance issues.
  • Aside from that, the game has poor facial textures and physics in cinematics, along with uncomfortable camera placement.

Lost Soul Aside has been in development for over a decade now, and so many fans have been awaiting its release.

The game was initially a solo project but was later developed into a team effort, with Sony providing funding. Thanks to the gaming giant, the game is finally releasing this week.

However, ahead of the release, a major problem has caught the fandom’s eye. The game’s performance seems to be extremely poor, and that’s the least of its concerns.

Why it matters: The way Lost Soul Aside looks, it takes skill and years of experience to get the physics and camera angle right.

In a now-removed Reddit post, a user who appears to have received an early copy of the game shared some early performance metrics for the game on the PS5.

The user notes that the game can’t even maintain 20 FPS on the PS5 in Quality mode, which is sure to raise eyebrows.

The FPS drops are brutal, as even in the first fight, the game goes below 20 FPS. Other than that, it has been reported that the facial textures are poor and physics feel weird in cinematics.

Lost Soul Aside Previews Are Quite Underwhelming, With Fans Warned To Keep Their Expectations Low

The camera angle also seems to be uncomfortable, which disrupts the entire rhythm, and this was also noted in the gameplay videos. Even games like Elden Ring sometimes have camera angle issues, but that is mainly because of the arena.

It is also worth noting that while the performance mode offers a smoother experience, it is nowhere near ideal as it comes with a cost of massive visual downgrade.

The game promised a 4K dynamic experience on PS5 Pro and PC, which, while unfortunate, now doesn’t seem that plausible.

Battlefield 2042 Is Beating CoD Warzone And Black Ops 6’s Playercount Right Now

Story Highlight
  • Battlefield 2042 has overtaken CoD Black Ops 6 and Warzone in terms of player base.
  • The game has seen massive gains in player base and is up by more than 100% in the last 30 days.
  • The future of CoD looks grim with Battlefield 6 set to overtake Black Ops 7 by a considerable margin.

The CoD franchise is at its lowest point in years, and Battlefield 6’s beta has already overtaken it to turn the tables. Thanks to the Battlefield 6 beta, the entire series has been rejuvenated and is experiencing the highest playercount they’ve had in years.

This includes Battlefield 2042, too, which is often regarded as the black sheep of the franchise. Surprisingly, the 4-year-old release is now surpassing CoD Black Ops 6 and Warzone in terms of player count.

Why it matters: Battlefield 2042 is by far the worst entry of the series, and for that game to surpass CoD, including the free-to-play Warzone mode, is surprising. Activision really needs to figure out the series’ direction, as its future is looking quite grim.

Currently, Battlefield 2042 has a peak concurrent player count of 64k in the past 24 hours, whereas CoD’s peak player count was only 54k players. Over at Steam Charts, the player count represented for CoD includes the latest Black Ops 6 as well as the free-to-play Warzone mode.

In the last 30 days, Battlefield 2042 has seen a staggering +167.26% increase in player count. This is largely due to the hype of Battlefield 6 as well as the free update the game received recently, adding new weapons, a map, and other content.

Black Ops 7
Black Ops 7 Sets A New Low For The Series

On the other hand, CoD has been losing its fanbase like a sinking ship. In the last 30 days, they’ve lost -14.36% of their playerbase and have been doing so for months. Lately, the franchise has been losing its direction with the new questionable content, which includes goofy skins and other additions.

Unfortunately, CoD will continue to experience these lows. The Black Ops 7 reveal will go down as the worst in the series, filled with hate comments and negativity on YouTube.

Alternatively, EA secured almost a million Battlefield 6 pre-orders and will boot stomp its rival. Surprisingly, Activision isn’t fazed at all and doesn’t consider Battlefield 6 a threat, as they believe their IP is too big to die.

High on Life 2 Will Let Players Emulate More Than 5 Retro Classics Within The Game

Story Highlight
  • High on Life 2 will let you play more than five fully emulated games.
  • These titles also include the NES classic Bible Adventures, which isn’t available anywhere else legally.
  • The sequel also includes several B+ tier movies, just like the first game.

High on Life 2 has astonished the industry by garnering overwhelmingly positive reviews at Gamescom, with testers who played the game praising the beautiful visuals and engrossing gameplay.

And, as it turns out, the sequel is improving upon the original in a variety of creative ways.

According to Squanch Games’ Art Director Mikey Spano, High on Life 2 will let you emulate and play retro video games, including a Nintendo title that was only available on the NES.

Why it matters: In-game emulation seems like an underutilised idea that developers should use to diversify their video games.

high on life 2
High on Life 2 will also feature B-movies, similar to the original.

While speaking to IGN at Gamescom, Spano stated that the sequel will also work like an emulator, letting you play more than five classic retro games like the old NES title Bible Adventures. The game actually showed up during the High on Life 2 demo at Gamescom, being playable when Senator Muppy Doo shrinks down to invade the main menu.

Interestingly, this is the only legal way to play Bible Adventures as the NES title is not available for purchase anywhere, and Nintendo’s strict guidelines against emulation make third-party playthroughs risky. Hence, High on Life 2 is raising the stakes in the sequel in a somewhat surprising way.

Yes, you can play the whole thing. And it’s not the only emulated game that’s in there.

Nintendo has historically been extremely anti-emulation, going as far as calling it a “Trafficking offence.” The Japanese giant closed down the popular emulator Yuzu for containing games like Zelda, taking home $2.4 million in the settlement. Therefore, it’s surprising how Squanch Games managed to license Bible Adventures for High on Life 2.

High On Life
High on Life 2 will be available day one on Xbox Game Pass.

Whatever the case, the sequel will let you play many other fully emulated games in addition to several B+ tier movies, just like the first game. However, we will have to wait a little bit to get our hands on High on Life 2 as the title launches on 13 February 2026

Do you think High on Life 2 will live up to expectations? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.

More PlayStation and Xbox Price Hikes Coming Soon, Warns Analyst

Story Highlight
  • An analyst has commented on recent console price hikes.
  • He believes the PS5 will likely become even more expensive in the future.
  • This also means that other consoles will follow a similar pricing trend.

Sony is the latest gaming giant to raise console prices after following in Nintendo and Xbox’s footsteps. Although fans are just now coming to terms with the new pricing, it seems they have not seen the last of prices going even higher.

According to a prominent analyst, more price hikes are expected in the future.

Why it matters: Console hardware used to see significant discounts multiple years into its lifecycle. In fact, many consoles were sold at up to half their price at a similar point during the generation in the past.

PS5 Xbox Series S|X
Both Consoles Could Cost As Much As $600 Soon

Popular analyst Matt Piscatella recently discussed PlayStation’s decision to raise PS5 prices across the board. He commented that this price hike was inevitable and is unlikely to be the last time Sony makes such an announcement.

Although the analyst did not directly say much about Xbox or Nintendo, it is implied that they will follow suit in a similar manner. In fact, Nintendo could be the next to raise prices since the Switch 2 is still being sold at its original price of $450.

The US tariffs are largely to blame for hardware prices moving in the opposite direction this generation, but gaming giants are also beginning to realize the limitations of the traditional console model.

This is why many are attempting to maximize profits on the stagnant hardware sales, with the new pricing serving as an extension of this strategy. Anyhow, the analyst’s prediction sounds like a safe bet given the events of the last few years.

Nintendo Switch 2
A Switch 2 Price Hike May Be Next

This also means that now may be the best time for those looking to buy a new PS5, Xbox Series S|X, or Nintendo Switch 2 for future releases. Some have even suggested waiting for the PS6 and next Xbox console at this point.

With games like GTA 6 coming next year, demand for console hardware will surge to never-before-seen levels for this generation. As such, PlayStation and Xbox could pursue another price hike while using GTA 6 as a safety net.

What do you think about this prediction? Do you think it’s best to buy a console now to avoid future price hikes? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.

Why OLED Monitors Are Finally Worth the Price in 2025

Story Highlights
  • These days OLED monitors offer more reliability and durability than earlier models.
  • The contrast, color accuracy and response times are phenomenal.
  • Prices of OLED displays have dropped significantly making them more accessible.
  • Competitors such as IPS and Mini-LED no longer have the same appeal.

OLED monitors have always been considered to be the best choice when it comes to displays. They come with perfect blacks, amazing contrast and breathtaking visuals. However, for PC gamers they came with significant drawbacks including high prices, limited availability and image retention issues.

In 2025 though, this has changed OLED monitors are no longer something only the wealthy can afford. They have now become a valid option for gamers, content creators and everyday users. Here’s why they are finally worth the buy now.

Prices are Falling

OLED started rising in 2024 and ever since prices have been dropping. When first introduced OLED displays cost anywhere from $1000 to $2000 Keeping them out of reach for many interested. As the production process for OLED monitors improved and more manufacturers emerged prices dropped significantly.

Basically, the market demand wasn’t as high as the supply. Now, in 2025 you can easily find an OLED display starting around $500 making them affordable and accessible. Premium models such as the Corsair Xeneon 27QHD240 are still however pricy but the features they come with justify the price tag. The price of OLEDs is now the same as high-end IPS and Mini LED displays making them a realistic choice for users.

Burn-In Problem Resolved

In the past one of the biggest issues of OLED displays was “burn-in“. This basically meant the permanent etching of static images like task bars and HUDs onto the display over time. This issue was a major turn off for users that spent hours editing, browsing or gaming with static UI elements.

In 2025 advancements in pixel shifting tech, heat management and screen saver technology have eliminated the risk of burn-in for many users. Manufacturers also now offer a longer warranty period covering burn-in. OLED monitors these days are made to last just as long as their premium LCD counterparts.

Stunning Visuals

What really sets OLED apart is its image quality. Competitor display technologies have improved significantly; however, they fail to replicate the strengths of OLED. The best advantage OLED has over its competitors is the ability to produce perfect blacks and infinite contrast

It can do so due to the fact that it can completely turn its pixels off creating depth and realism in dark scenes which no other technology can achieve. Alongside this, OLED panels are best in color reproduction these displays offer a wide color gamut and color accuracy. This makes them the preferred choice for video, photo editors and digital artists.

These screens also offer instantaneous pixel switching capabilities which significantly reduces motion blur and ghosting for fast moving visuals. Furthermore, in 2025 HDR performance has significantly increased allowing for better highlights and shadow detail significantly increasing immersion.

Gaming on OLED

Gamers have many reasons to take to OLED in 2025. Refresh rates of these monitors have significantly improved with many offering 144Hz to 240Hz panels, and some even reaching 360Hz at 1440p or 4K resolutions. LG has gone a step even further by announcing the world’s first 5k OLED monitor. These refresh rates paired with lightning-fast response times give PC gamers a noticeable edge.

5K OLED Gaming

Many OLEDs support variable refresh rate (VRR) technologies such as NVIDIA G Sync and AMD Free Sync to ensure smooth gameplay without any tearing. This along with HDR allows for OLEDs to be in a league of their own when it comes to display choices lately. It’s safe to say that you can’t go back to other technologies after you try gaming on OLED.

Energy Efficient and Modern

Another underrated improved in OLED monitors that we see in 2025 is energy efficiency. OLED displays consume less energy as the pixels shut off completely in dark scenes. Apart from this OLEDs now have slimmer bezzles and an overall lighter design making them more stylish and appealing.

Final Thoughts

OLED monitors were once thought to be impractical, fragile and over expensive. In 2025 however prices have dropped, and manufacturers have addressed burn-in concerns. Apart from this performance has also significantly increased with minimal energy consumption.

Whether you are a gamer, an editor/artist needing color accuracy or a simple consumer OLED provides an amazing experience. I myself being an OLED user have had no issues thus far and have to admit that the quality is worth every penny. To conclude, OLED is not a luxury anymore it’s a viable option for anyone who is serious about display quality.

Why 1080p Was the Right Call for the Switch 2 Screen

Story Highlights
  • A 1080p display provides a great balance between amazing graphics and efficient performance for handheld gaming.
  • A higher display screen would quickly drain the device’s battery life.
  • Developers can build a game more effectively around a 1080p display.
  • The docked mode can offer higher resolutions through AI upscaling techniques.

When Nintendo revealed that their upcoming new console, the Switch ,2 would have a 1080p display, the reactions from fans were mixed. Many fans were expecting an upgrade to 1440p or even 4k resolution as high resolutions have become the norm in gaming culture lately.

Needless to say, they were disappointed. Nintendo’s decision to keep the display at 1080p was due to multiple reasons. It wasn’t just to keep the overall costs down. It was a calculated move to ensure better performance, battery life, and user experience. Here’s why 1080p makes perfect sense for the Switch 2 display.

Balancing Performance and Portability

When it comes to the Switch, it has always been about one device that works both as a handheld and as a home console. Although a higher resolution screen sounds great on paper, in actuality, it would put unnecessary strain on the device’s hardware, especially in handheld mode.

Running games in 1440p or 4k resolution on a portable device would need a lot more GPU power. It will also cause overheating issues, drain more battery life, and higher energy consumption. This will not only shorten the device’s lifespan but will also affect the throttling performance. To compensate for this resolution, as rumors suggested and now confirmed, Nintendo makes use of Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling AI to enhance graphics.

Higher Resolution in Docked Mode

It’s not like the console is limited to below 1080p resolution. When in docked mode and connected to a TV, the system supports up to 4k resolution and HDR with the help of upscaling from DLSS. This approach helps Nintendo cater to the needs of players who want to play in docked mode as well as optimize efficiency in handheld mode.

Affordable and Accessible

One major factor in the fame of the Nintendo Switch has always been its affordability. In 2023, Nintendo reported selling 130 million plus units, and an estimated over 152 million units by March 2025. The Switch did not outsell its competitors by matching specs. It did so by offering an accessible and innovative gaming experience at a very reasonable price.

Nintendo Switch 2

A 1440p or 4k display would have significantly raised the price of the Switch 2 hardware. By keeping the Switch 2 at 1080p, Nintendo manages to keep the console at a friendly price point while investing in other areas such as processing power and overall build quality. This allows for a wider range of individuals to have access to the device.

Lessons from the Original Switch

If we take a look at the past history also supports Nintendo’s decision. The original switch launched with a 720p screen, and despite much criticism, it went on to sell millions of units worldwide. The handheld experience was smooth, enjoyable, and delivered great performance. This proved that raw resolution isn’t the key factor in players’ enjoyment.

Nintendo Switch 2

The shit from 720p to 1080p just seems right. It presents itself as a smart upgrade that takes a small leap towards sharper visuals without trying to jump ahead too far. Nintendo knew that too far of a leap would just cause more issues than it would solve.

A Futureproofed Console

The Nintendo Switch 2 seems to be built as a future-proof console. But Nintendo is not future-proofing the way Sony and other competitors are. The whole idea about the Switch is relevant. The console comes equipped with many features and strong enough hardware to remain relevant for a while. The 1080p screen is also a move in the direction to help make the console last a few years’ worth of updates from competitors.

The Right Call

In my opinion, Nintendo made the right decision. In a time where larger numbers often mean better hardware, it’s easy to assume that a higher resolution equals a better experience. This, however, is not true in terms of the Switch 2, as it makes use of DLSS. This software helps the console to generate its own frames in the place of missing ones to improve overall FPS.

The 1080p screen on the Switch 2 hits the sweet spot. It’s cheap enough to access, looks stunning on an 8-inch screen, helps maintain a strong battery life, does not cause overheating, and more. Without a doubt, a 1080p screen was the best choice for the Switch 2.

No New Hardware Needed, Says Final Fantasy Director: PS5, Series X, and Switch 2 Are Enough

Story Highlight
  • Yoshi P, the director of Final Fantasy, claims that there is no need for new hardware.
  • He thinks that the current PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 are more than enough.
  • However, Microsoft and Sony have already planned their next-generation consoles.

The console war feels over now, with Microsoft stepping back from the hardware race this generation. PlayStation 5 continues to sell like hotcakes, recently surpassing the lifetime sales of the PSP. Sony has also launched its mid-gen refresh, the PS5 Pro, while Nintendo has introduced the Switch 2.

With that in mind, Final Fantasy director Yoshi P has said there is currently no need for new hardware, as the PS5, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch 2 are more than enough.

Why it matters: Microsoft and Sony are already preparing for their next consoles, with the former aiming to launch its as early as next year

Final Fantasy 16
Final Fantasy 16 Struggled A Lot On PS5 At Launch, Causing Overheating and Shutdowns

Feed4Gamers had the courtesy to interview the famous Yoshi P. In the interview, he was asked whether there is any way Final Fantasy 14 would become a cross-generation game, as there are already talks about the next generation of consoles.

Yoshi P replied by saying that there is always a possibility of providing their games on those platforms, as he aims to provide FF14 to as many players as possible. From a developer’s perspective, he doesn’t think that the addition of a new console is a negative thing

However, from a gamer’s perspective, he thinks there is no need for new hardware as people are satisfied with the current generation one.

When I look at things from a gamer’s perspective, I feel that there’s no real need to make new hardware, because I think right now people are happy with the Xbox Series X, the PS5 or the Switch 2.

-Yoshi P

He further stated that hardware is simply too expensive for most players. Even so, the major gaming companies are already preparing their next consoles, and with GTA 6 launching next year, Microsoft could try to capitalise on the momentum by releasing its next-gen system.

That said, there is nothing confirmed regarding the release of any next-gen console

Borderlands 4: RTX 5080 Fails To Maintain 60FPS At 4K Max Settings Even With DLSS

Story Highlight
  • Borderlands 4’s PC port might be flawed, as it struggles to maintain a stable 60FPS at 4K max settings even on an RTX 5080.
  • As usual, Unreal Engine 5 seems to be the culprit here.
  • The Switch 2 port is also a mess, barely outputting 30FPS and struggling with input delay.

After a hiatus of 6 years, the Borderlands series is finally set to return next month. Borderlands 4 previews are pretty positive, suggesting a solid release from Gearbox that will put a bit of a twist on the franchise that was starting to get a bit stale.

That said, all that glitters isn’t gold, and the game might still stumble, at least on the technical side. Early previews indicate that Borderlands 4 has difficulty maintaining 60FPS at 4K max settings, even with DLSS enabled on the RTX 5080.

Why it matters: Performance issues in video games have been occurring at an unusually high rate recently. Developers should take more time optimizing their games, or else it backfires on them significantly.

zWORMz Gaming had the opportunity to test out a few upcoming releases at the Nvidia Gamescom 2025 Event. The GeForce Now setup was equipped with an RTX 5080, and so far, Borderlands 4 was the only mediocre experience.

Without Frame Gen enabled and at 4k maxed out settings with DLSS super resolution enabled, the game ran around 58 to 60ish FPS. It is important to note that the tested gameplay footage occurred in a closed environment.

With action involved and in a busy area, expect an even lower framerate. The surprising part is that Borderlands games have never been that demanding, but the latest entry is giving GPUs like the RTX 5080 a run for its money.

Gearbox Expects 6 Million Sales At Launch For The Game

The culprit here is obviously the Unreal Engine 5, which has become quite notorious for its questionable performance. On the Switch 2, a similar case was noted with the handheld barely outputting 30FPS while running Borderlands 4.

With the full release less than a month away, the true performance picture will soon be clear. Gearbox has shown strong confidence in the game, even going as far as to claim it would still be worth $350. But with these technical concerns already surfacing, that bold statement could easily backfire.

PlayStation Refuses To Play It Safe After Concord, Hopes Future Failures Happen Early In Development

Story Highlight
  • PlayStation Studios CEO Herman Hulst has clarified that the company will no longer play it safe after Concord’s failure.
  • He prefers that future failures occur at an earlier and cheaper point, rather than avoiding risks altogether.
  • Sony has tightened quality control and testing to prevent another flop.

Concord’s flop last year hit PlayStation like a tidal wave after it invested $250 million in it. Many analysts and gamers expected the company to stay grounded in its live-service goals after, but CEO Herman Hulst appears to have no plans to slow down.

PlayStation Studios boss says that the company will no longer play it safe after Concord’s failure, instead. Herman agrees that there will be inevitable failures in the future, but hopes they happen at an earlier and cheaper point during development.

Why it matters: Even after Concord’s multi-million failure, Herman Hulst does not want PlayStation to play it safe. He wants to continue pushing live-service ambitions in the future.

PlayStation Live Service Games
The PlayStation live service portfolio has been a hit or miss so far.

Speaking in an interview with The Financial Times, Herman Hulst wants PlayStation’s 20 first-party studios to ‘think big,’ contribute more to overall revenue growth, and take measured risks without affecting their independence.

I don’t want teams to always play it safe, but I would like for us, when we fail, to fail early and cheaply.

-PlayStation Studios CEO, Herman Hulst.

Additionally, PlayStation has added several quality control and testing protocols after learning from Concord to ensure such a disaster is not repeated, despite not playing it safe.

The advantage of every failure . . . is that people now understand how necessary that [oversight] is.

Unlike Jim Ryan, Herman isn’t chasing a set number of live-service releases, just diverse experiences and communities.

PlayStation
PlayStation is also shifting towards a more aggressive multiplatform strategy over time to meet profit demands.

At the moment, Sony’s Bungie is developing Marathon, a live-service project also rumored to be in murky waters after a string of controversies. Therefore, fans still don’t have high hopes for Sony’s live-service initiatives.

Do you think PlayStation’s insistence on pushing live-service ambitions despite past failures is a wise decision? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below, or join the discussion on the Tech4Gamers forum.

Dying Light: The Beast Xbox Broadcast Demo Was Running on Steam

Story Highlight
  • During the Gamescom 2025 Xbox broadcast, Dying Light: The Beast demo was showcased.
  • The demo crashed mid-broadcast, revealing it was running on Steam.
  • While it isn’t uncommon for demos to run on PC, some argue it should have been on Xbox hardware.

Xbox had a massive presence at Gamescom this year, so it would make perfect sense for the company to highlight its games on its own hardware. However, it seems Microsoft may have already given up on fully backing its current-gen consoles.

During the Xbox Broadcast, the Dying Light: The Beast demo unexpectedly crashed, and when it did, viewers noticed something surprising: the game wasn’t running on an Xbox at all, but rather on Steam.

Why it matters: It’s incredibly disappointing to see Xbox rely on another platform to showcase one of its games, especially when it already has its own dedicated consoles.

Dying Light crashes on Xbox Broadcast and shows STEAM… xD
byu/PrfctPrfct inxbox

During the Xbox broadcast at Gamescom 2025, it was unexpectedly revealed that the Dying Light: The Beast demo, originally assumed to be running on Xbox hardware, was actually running on Steam.

While it isn’t unusual for in-development games to be showcased on PC, this was a demo intended to highlight the title for Xbox players. The only reason this detail came to light was because the demo crashed; otherwise, the audience would never have known, as Microsoft made no mention of the game running on a PC rather than an Xbox console.

Again, this isn’t exactly a massive blunder, as showcasing demos on PC during development isn’t unusual. Since Xbox brands everything under its ecosystem, it’s somewhat understandable in this case.

Xbox Series X
Xbox Current-Gen Hardware Sales Are Reported To Be Below 30 Million

Still, some may argue that if the company insists on using PC hardware, it should at least rely on its own Xbox app rather than Steam. That said, Steam offers a more reliable and developer-friendly setup for testing, which could explain the choice.

What are your thoughts on Xbox using Steam for the demo of Dying Light: The Beast? Share them with us in the comments section below or join the official Tech4Gamers forums for discussion.

ROG Xbox Ally X Delivers Impressive Doom The Dark Ages Performance; Runs At 1080p 70FPS With Ray Tracing

Story Highlight
  • Doom: The Dark Ages was incredibly intensive across the board when it launched a few months ago.
  • The game was playable on the ROG Xbox All X at Gamescom and showed impressive results.
  • Using a mixture of low and medium settings, the handheld achieved 70FPS at 1080p.

Several months after its release, Doom: The Dark Ages remains notorious as one of 2025’s most intensive PC releases. The game even spurred debates about the diminishing gains in graphics brought about by the use of mandatory ray tracing.

This also meant that running Doom: The Dark Ages was a tall order for all handhelds, with the likes of the Steam Deck being incapable of handling the title. Fortunately, the upcoming ROG Xbox Ally X seems to deviate from the trend, offering 70FPS gameplay at 1080p with ray tracing.

Why it matters: Handheld technology has come a long way over the last decade, with the latest hardware trying to keep pace with new home consoles.

Doom: The Dark Ages
Doom: The Dark Ages Pushed All PCs To Their Limits

According to Cary Golomb, who had hands-on time with the ROG Xbox Ally X, Doom: The Dark Ages can achieve 60+FPS gameplay at 1080p when customized with the right settings.

The game does not allow gamers to disable ray tracing, so this frame rate was achieved with ray tracing in place. Cary Golomb used a mixture of low and medium settings while also making use of FSR.

With FSR set to 540p base resolution, the game was rendered at 50% of 1080p to achieve these results. Moreover, frame generation was also used on the ROG Xbox Ally X, resulting in 70FPS in Doom: The Dark Ages.

While the performance is certainly impressive for such a limited form factor, it is important to note that the Rog Xbox Ally X is the more powerful handheld coming from Asus and Xbox in the future.

It is set to be priced at nearly $1000, which may make the performance appear less impressive, but there is no denying the capabilities of the Ryzen Z2 SoC in the ROG Xbox Ally X.

The ROG Xbox Ally X Is Impressive, But It Comes At A Huge Cost

Once both Xbox handhelds are officially available, it will also be interesting to see how the base ROG Xbox ally fares in this demanding first-person shooter.

Black Myth: Wukong’s Team Puts DLC Aside To Prioritize New Game

Story Highlight
  • Black Myth: Wukong DLCs were confirmed previously, but haven’t been released yet.
  • The developer has confirmed that it aims to focus on Zong Kui.
  • While the DLC was in development, the developer wants to prioritise its new game for now.

Black Myth: Wukong’s journey is packed with surprises, which left the fandom eager to see and explore more. Game Science had previously confirmed plans for Black Myth: Wukong DLCs, and rumors strongly suggested a release this year. Many expected a big reveal at Gamescom, but the studio had something else in mind.

Instead of announcing DLC, the developer surprised fans with an entirely new project, Black Myth: Zhong Kui. For now, Game Science seems to have put Wukong DLC plans aside as it shifts focus to this brand-new game.

Why it matters: Black Myth: Wukong won the hearts of many, which is why the demand for DLC remains extremely high, but the developer has other plans.

Black Myth Zhong Kui
Black Myth Zhong Kui Is A New Game From Game Science.

Game Science Director, Feng Ji, has revealed in a post on Weibo that while a DLC for Wukong is a good idea, the studio currently wants to focus on something entirely new

After releasing Wukong, the director was continuously asked whether the DLC was in development or when it would be released. So, following all of the pressure, the director pulled himself together and started working on the DLC.

For more than six months after the game’s release, Feng Ji focused on several key areas, developed some settings, and held several meetings. However, one day everything changed when the studio’s co-founder, Yang Qi, asked if he would rather make something entirely new instead of working on the DLC.

DLC is certainly a good option, but at this moment, we wanted to make a new Black Myth game first—new heroes, new gameplay, new visuals, new technology, and a new story.

This doesn’t mean that the DLC for Black Myth: Wukong has been scrapped. Although some development has been done, the studio currently wants to focus on Zhong Kui.
