Next PlayStation State of Play Expected To Be Showcase-Level Event

Sony Might Be Preparing For Its Biggest State of Play To Date!

Story Highlight
  • The next PlayStation State of Play has been announced for June 2.
  • This event has been announced two weeks in advance and will run for over an hour.
  • PlayStation is also hosting viewings in theaters, setting the stage for a huge livestream on par with past showcases.

PlayStation is finally returning with a new State of Play soon, and this event is expected to feature several games in addition to Marvel’s Wolverine.

The latest announcement has many fans excited, but the upcoming event seems to be different than the typical State of Play. As it stands, signs suggest PlayStation is gearing up for an event on par with past PlayStation Showcases.

Why it matters: PlayStation previously held major showcases during the summer before abandoning the format in favor of State of Play livestreams. The former used to be much bigger deals, so fans are excited for a potential return to this style of show.

PlayStation’s next State of Play goes live on June 2, and it was announced earlier today. However, this announcement stands out since it was made two weeks before the actual livestream.

Typically, PlayStation announces its State of Play events a day or two before the stream. This deviation from the gaming giant suggests it intends to create more anticipation than usual.

Elsewhere, PlayStation has confirmed that its upcoming State of Play will be broadcast in several theaters in the US. This is, once again, something the gaming giant previously did for major events in the past.

The livestream itself will be over an hour long, so PlayStation should have plenty of room for major announcements. If rumors are anything to go by, the likes of God of War Faye and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet should be making an appearance at this State of Play.

PlayStation is also said to be exploring older IP revivals at the moment, so there’s really no telling what announcements and surprises the gaming giant has in store for fans.

Elsewhere, fans can look forward to major events like Summer Game Fest and the Xbox Games Showcase following PlayStation’s State of Play. These three showcases should prove to be quite eventful for all gamers worldwide.
