Kwan Perng Was Laid Off By Bungie In 2024.

Story Highlight
  • Project Sirius has hired former Bungie narrative designer Kwan Perng as the new lead writer.
  • The developer has worked on Destiny 2, including its best expansion, The Final Shape.
  • The Witcher spinoff is four years into development and has had a troubled production cycle.

After taking a decade-long break, The Witcher franchise is making a major comeback. The hype for Witcher 4 is already through the roof, and CD Projekt Red is hiring the best talent in the industry while using exciting new technology for the project.

Besides the upcoming RPG, the Polish developer is also working on other Witcher games, and one of them is Project Sirius, which will ship with co-op and PvE elements. However, it doesn’t seem like the title is launching anytime soon, as CD Projekt Red has just hired a new lead writer for the game four years into development.

Why it matters: Project Sirius has had a troubled production from the get-go, and fans can only hope this new hire can finally turn the ship around.

Kwan Perng, a former narrative designer at Bungie, has joined CD Projekt Red as the new head writer of Project Sirius. The former Destiny 2 narrative lead, who helped write many of the game’s expansions, like The Witch Queen, Lightfall, and The Final Shape, was laid off by Bungie in 2024.

However, Perng’s contribution towards The Final Shape DLC, which was one of the best-reviewed post-launch expansions for Destiny 2, should excite The Witcher fans about this appointment. On LinkedIn, the writer stated that he has been immersing himself in the dark world of the RPG, but can’t talk about Project Sirius right now.

The Witcher spin-off has had a troubled production so far, getting rebooted once with its original developer, Molasses Flood, getting absorbed into CD Projekt Red

CD Projekt Red has made mistakes with the development of The Witcher spin-off.

The team working on Project Sirius also got hit with layoffs, and hiring a new lead writer four years into development is not a good sign. However, developers have hyped up the project, saying it will be one for the books with multiplayer and single-player elements.
