The Star Wars Jedi Director Is Still Pitching The Game To People At Hasbro.

Story Highlight
  • God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen’s Dungeons and Dragons single-player title has been canned.
  • Hasbro has cancelled its publishing deal with the director’s Giant Skull Studio.
  • Asmussen is still trying to pitch the title to people at Wizards of the Coast.

Following the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3, Dungeons and Dragons owner Hasbro has been keen to expand its gaming empire. Recent reports suggest that the company has put a new Transformers game in production and is also moving forward with Baldur’s Gate 4.

However, Hasbro has cancelled many projects in the recent past, including an open-world RPG based on Dungeons and Dragons. Now, as it turns out, the new action-adventure title based on the IP from God of War director Stig Asmussen has also been canned.

Why it matters: A single-player game based on Dungeons and Dragons sounds like an interesting project that should see the light of day.

The single-player title was announced in June last year.

As reported by Bloomberg, Hasbro has ended its exclusive publishing deal with Stig Asmussen’s Giant Skull studio for the Dungeons and Dragons action-adventure title.

We assess concepts at every stage of development. While we decided not to pursue an early concept from Giant Skull, we have great respect for Stig Asmussen and his team and value our ongoing relationship.

A spokesperson from IP holder Wizards of the Coast, which is owned by Hasbro, said that the company decided not to pursue the project after viewing the game in its most recent stage of development. Asmussen, who directed the Star Wars Jedi series and God of War 3, revealed the Dungeons and Dragons title last year in collaboration with Hasbro.

Built in Unreal Engine 5, the action-adventure project was going to be single-player focused, building on the blueprint Stig Asmussen developed for God of War and Star Wars Jedi. Despite the cancellation, the veteran developer is still pitching the Dungeons and Dragons game to people at Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast.

Stig Asmussen directed both titles in the Star Wars Jedi series.

A representative also told Bloomberg that the company enjoyed working with Giant Skull and will listen to more pitches from Stig Asmussen, as they have great respect for the developer. Hasbro is currently working on the space RPG Exodus, which has been described as Dungeons and Dragons in space.

Do you think Stig Asmussen will find a publishing deal for this interesting Dungeons and Dragons single-player title? Do you want to play this game? Tell us in the comments below or head to the Tech4Gamers forum for discussion.
