- Modern Warfare 4 has become the highest-rated Call of Duty game on Steam in more than 10 years.
- Early positivity is driven largely by the game’s campaign, which has been praised by players and critics.
- The strong Steam response is important after years of mixed sentiment around recent Call of Duty releases.
Despite doubts before its release, initial Modern Warfare 4 impressions appear to be quite positive, particularly due to the game’s campaign. In fact, over on Steam, the game has garnered quite the positive reception, becoming one of Call of Duty’s best-rated titles of all time.
Why it matters: Modern Warfare 3’s campaign was considered one of the worst in the series, so its sequel seems to be an unexpected return to form for the franchise.
Modern Warfare 4 has emerged as the best-rated Call of Duty title on Steam in more than a decade. At the time of writing, 89% of the 1,700+ reviews for the game are currently positive, netting it a ‘Very Positive’ overall rating.
For comparison, titles like Black Ops 7, Black Ops 6, and Modern Warfare 3 have Steam positive ratings of 36%, 44%, and 48%, respectively. Modern Warfare 4 is doing even better than beloved titles like Black Ops 3 so far.
However, it is important to note that the game’s current rating reflects only the campaign experience. Therefore, it remains to be seen if MW4 will be able to sustain its current momentum.
Activision will likely be happy to see positivity surrounding Call of Duty for once, especially since Black Ops 7 was far from a popular entry.
What do you think of the MW4 campaign so far? Do you think it warrants all the recent praise? Do let us know in the comments section.
