- Mod called HelixSR replaces RDNA 2 and 3 native FSR 3 version with DLSS 3.7.
- This shows some noticeable performance upgrades while retaining good image quality.
- This is especially useful for low-powered hardware like the Steam Deck and other handhelds.
Upscalers have kind of become the default requirement for most modern games due to a lack of proper optimization. While upscalers like DLSS have become outstanding, AMD’s FSR is still catching up, though it too has improved.
However, a new mod brings Nvidia DLSS 3.7 to older AMD hardware like the Steam Deck and other handhelds, and it certainly shows improved performance over FSR. It shows gains in both visuals and FPS.
Why it matters: Again, DLSS is superior to FSR even if it’s the older version, and that is apparent from testing. If the mod can be made more streamlined, it could breathe new life into older hardware using Nvidia’s upscaler.
HelixSR, available on GitHub, replaces AMD’s native FSR 3.1 found on RDNA 2 and 3 with DLSS 3.7. Interestingly, these older models don’t support FSR 4 natively yet, but AMD has announced that support is coming.
Anyways, DLSS 3.7 was the last CNN-based upscaling model, after which Nvidia shifted to Transformer. However, the older version is better because handhelds have limited power, and the version is lighter on the system.

So, to put it again, FSR 4, which can be forced using certain tools, DLSS 3.7 certainly works better. In games like Pragmata and Onimusha, DLSS provided better performance, while the image quality traded blows.
The mod is no way finished form. It has some hiccups and even causes crashes at times, but it is certainly headed in the right direction. With FSR 4 also natively coming to older hardware, this will be an interesting test.
