With the big superhero title expected to debut next month, previews of the game are also coming soon. However, one early preview has gone live and suggests the game will be good, but not a complete reinvention.
Why it matters: Marvel’s Wolverine is positioned as the big blockbuster PS5 title for 2026, so the game has big shoes to fill, especially after following up on Insomniac’s Spider-Man series.
Early impressions via Reddit suggest Marvel’s Wolverine will appeal to fans who already enjoy Insomniac’s superhero formula and want more of the same.
Toward that end, the game seems to deliver on its promise of cinematic and brutal combat. However, it can struggle with targets when fighting large crowds, something that also existed in the Spider-Man titles to a lesser degree.
Elsewhere, the preview suggests the plot and writing are also par for the course when it comes to a superhero title. Also, the impression suggests Insomniac takes a fairly standard approach to boss battles.
When all is said and done, this first preview dubs Marvel’s Wolverine a “decently solid action game.”
Of course, there is a certain charm to Insomniac taking a traditional approach with Marvel’s Wolverine, especially since many still remember Activision’s Xbox 360/PS3 title fondly for its brutal combat and linear nature.
