Another Huge Indie Breakthrough!

Story Highlight
  • Indie title Meccha Chameleon has been a huge, surprising breakout hit this year.
  • The title has managed to sell over 20 million copies in just 2 months since release.
  • This is another example of an indie game absolutely dominating the gaming market.

Some recent indie games have low-key been bigger hits than high-budget AAA games. The biggest reason is that they aren’t scared to be creative and think outside the box because budgets aren’t massive, and they don’t have much to lose.

Meccha Chameleon is one of these indie hits, and it has taken the Steam community by storm. The title has reached a ridiculous 25 million copies sold in barely 2 months since it was released earlier this year in June

Why it matters: Last year was also full of surprising indie hits like Dispatch, Blue Prince, and more, and this year too has been outstanding for them, with releases like Slay the Spire 2, Meccha Chameleon, and more.

Meccha Chameleon has sold a whopping 20 million copies in just 2 months

Developer LEMORION announced that Meccha Chameleon has sold a whopping 25 million copies to date. The milestone has been achieved in just two months, after the game sold 15 million copies in its first 15 days of release.

One could argue that the game’s mere $6 price provides a boost, but standing out in a very saturated market, where hundreds of indie titles are released regularly, is nothing short of an achievement in itself, along with the sales.

The title has been a surprise hit, showcasing how big indie games can be

For those who don’t have much idea of the title, it is essentially a game of hide-and-seek, where you have to paint yourself in specific colors and camouflage yourself with the map environments, while hunters try to find you.
