Intergalactic Risks Moving Close To $1 Billion Budget In Case of Delay!

Story Highlight
  • Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is Naughty Dog’s most expensive game to date.
  • An insider suggests a long delay could push the project’s budget beyond $600 million.
  • The game has yet to show up in any meaningful way following its announcement in 2024.

Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet has been positioned as one of Sony’s biggest upcoming first-party releases, but Naughty Dog has said surprisingly little about the game in the days that have passed since its original debut in 2024.

Previously, Neil Druckmann described Intergalactic as Naughty Dog’s most expensive game. An insider now predicts that the title could end up costing over $600 million if it does not come out in 2027.

Why it matters: Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet’s lack of marketing has led to doubts about a potential delay. Naughty Dog also has yet to release a new game since 2020.

As pointed out by Kiwi_Talkz on Twitter, Naughty Dog is unlikely to delay the game beyond 2027 due to budget concerns.

The insider, popular for his interviews with various game developers, estimates that Naughty Dog would have spent over $600 million on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet by the time of its release in case of a delay to 2028.

He states that salaries in L.A. are incredibly high because of the cost of living, and with Naughty Dog employing over 200 developers, the game is likely to cost between $400 to $500 million without a delay.

I think it’s highly unlikely that Intergalactic gets delayed from 2027 to 2028 because that will start pushing the budget into the $600 million range.

Of course, this brings up a wider issue with PlayStation’s titles, that being their production budgets and expenses. Former Sony executives like Shawn Layden have also spoken in depth about the growing expenses of working on AAA productions.
