Horizon Zero Dawn PSN Price Secretly Doubled After Remaster Announcement

PlayStation Quietly Raised Price After 6 Years!

Story Highlight
  • Horizon Zero Dawn was previously priced at just $19.99 on PSN.
  • This price has suddenly shot up to $39.99 after PlayStation announced a new remaster for the title.
  • The new price will make it difficult for digital gamers to benefit from the $10 remaster upgrade.

PlayStation is gearing up to re-release Horizon Zero Dawn next month with a myriad of graphical enhancements. The remaster will also be available for just $10 for existing game owners, but there’s a catch.

Not all PC gamers will be able to take advantage of this offer, and it seems PlayStation is continuing the trend of limiting this upgrade by increasing Horizon Zero Dawn’s price on PSN.

Why it matters: The remaster’s reception is already far from positive, and this move will only damage it further.

As noted on the popular price tracking website PSPrices, Horizon Zero Dawn has seen a sudden price hike on PlayStation’s digital storefront.

This game was priced at just $19.99 once the price was slashed several years ago. The title stayed at this price until PlayStation announced the underwhelming remaster, leading to the price reaching $39.99.

It appears that this is done in an attempt to rake in extra revenue ahead of the remaster’s release. Since PlayStation is offering the remaster as a $10 upgrade, many gamers may have considered buying Horizon Zero Dawn digitally to prepare for the remaster.

If they still intend to follow through with this plan, the remaster will end up costing a whopping $50 once the entire package is purchased. While physical copies can still be found for relatively cheap, this will be of little benefit to those using a digital-only PS5 console.

For the unaware, Horizon Zero Dawn received a major price cut in 2018. The base game was priced at $19.99 for more than six years, so it’s bizarre that the decision was suddenly reversed this week.

While many were glad to see PlayStation’s remaster announcement be consumer-friendly, the gaming giant’s latest move could spark controversy. With the remaster just over a month away, the odds seem to be stacked against Horizon’s latest entry.
