God of War Ragnarok was released on 9th November 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The game was well-received by the critics and fans of the franchise.

In addition, God of War Ragnarok is a commercial success as the game sold over 5.1 million copies in the first week of its release, which made it the most commercially successful God of War game in the franchise and the biggest PlayStation first-party release ever.

Not only that, the sales of God of War Ragnarok were 51% higher than its predecessor at launch in the UK, and 82% of those sales were from the PlayStation 5 version of the game.

Recently, after a month of its release, God of War Ragnarok is back at the number one spot on the UK sales charts, as reported by GamesIndustry. According to Gfk, the game’s sales increased by 32% in the week ending on 10th December as compared to last week’s sales.

It should be noted that the reported sales are boxed sales in the UK, which do not include the game’s digital sales.

Nevertheless, God of War Ragnarok is an impressive game with an intriguing storyline and plausible gameplay built well upon its predecessor, as expected by the fans. And that is the reason the game won six awards at The Game Awards 2022, including the title of Best Action/Adventure Game, it proved itself to be a worthy contender for The Game of the Year Award, but according to the judges and public voting, Elden Ring deserved it more.

As for the sales of God of War Ragnarok in the UK, the reason reported for the increase is the arrival of the new PlayStation 5 stock and hardware bundled with the game. The other factor affecting the sales could be the stable supply of PlayStation 5, especially after the scalper and market manipulators have started to lose interest in it.

In addition, PlayStation as a brand has been doing great in the UK recently; as reported previously, it holds almost 80% market share in the region, leaving Xbox behind. While the God of War Ragnarok’s director wants to work on the Castlevania franchise, it will be interesting to see what Santa Monica Studio has in store for the fans and what storyline the franchise will follow after the closure of Kratos and Atreus storyline in Ragnarok.
