The Castlevania franchise is one of the most beloved and oldest titles in the gaming industry. Titles like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are still remembered fondly by millions of fans worldwide. However, despite the franchise’s popularity, Castlevania has not seen a new release in nearly a decade.

While the franchise continues to be dormant, the God of War Ragnarok director has recently expressed interest in working on a new Castlevania title

God of War Ragnarok director Eric Williams was recently featured on Kinda Funny Games. While talking about a potential future project, he stated,

“I don’t know what I’m doing next, but if somebody gets me that Castlevania license, we would love to make that.”

The director has recently finished working on God of War Ragnarok. The title has seen impressive review scores and 51% higher sales numbers than God of War 2018 in the UK. As such, Eric Williams and the rest of Santa Monica have done a fantastic job on the most recent release.

Fans would likely be happy to have the director leading development on a brand new Castlevania title. The last Castlevania title was released in 2014, and the game saw mixed reception, but a revival of the franchise is long overdue.

Furthermore, Konami has recently announced the Silent Hill 2 remake. As such, the publisher has shown a willingness to revive existing games that have not seen new entries in some time. While Konami has not recently talked about Castlevania, a new entry seems possible, given the publisher’s recent track record.

Sony Santa Monica has impressed audiences with God of War Ragnarok, but it looks like director Eric Williams is already thinking about his next project. A Castlevania title from the developer would be filled with potential.

Fans would likely be pleased to see the return of the classic franchise, but it remains to be seen how things will turn out for the Castlevania franchise.
