Gears of War: E-Day Job Listing Points To PlayStation Release

Expert Verified By

Gears of War Would Be Huge On PlayStation!

Story Highlight
  • The Coalition is currently hiring for work on Gears of War: E-Day multiplayer.
  • One job listing from the studio asks for experience with work on the PlayStation Network.
  • This may be an early sign of the game going multiplatform at release or later down the line.

Gears of War: E-Day is currently set to be one of Xbox’s biggest first-party releases this generation. Possibly coming as early as next year, this prequel has already created palpable excitement after its first trailer.

However, a job listing hints that Xbox fans may not be the only ones to experience the brutality of Emergence Day. As spotted by CindieStarLight on the Tech4Gamers forums, Xbox seems to be planning to launch Gears of War: E-Day on the PS5.

Why it matters: The Gears of War franchise has been a pillar of Microsoft’s first-party lineup since the Xbox 360 days.

According to the job listing, The Coalition is looking to hire a developer with various qualifications. One of these mentions the PlayStation Network.

Experience with Xbox Live, PSN, Steam.

-The Coalition

Like every other Xbox title, Gears of War: E-Day is coming to Steam. In fact, it already has a store page on the platform. However, the studio explicitly mentioning PSN in the preferred qualifications is interesting.

It’s no secret that Microsoft has gone all in on third-party releases recently. Phil Spencer has even confirmed that more titles will go on rival platforms in the future after announcing Doom: The Dark Ages for the PS5.

If IPs as big as Doom are heading to rival hardware, similar treatment for Gears of War is not out of the question. Rumors also suggest something similar could happen to Halo eventually.

One could argue that the job listing points to PSN as an alternative rather than a platform to work on. However, The Coalition could have gotten the same point across without pointing to PSN.

This gives the job listing more weight, but nothing is set in stone for now.

Whatever ends up happening, Microsoft still has plenty of time to consider its third-party approach.

It’s also possible that Gears of War: E-Day will be a timed exclusive to Xbox consoles, with Microsoft already planning a launch for PS5 a few months or one year after the official Xbox launch.
