Impressive Figures Even Years Ago!

Story Highlight
  • A LinkedIn profile of the former Head of Product at Xbox suggests that the Game Pass generated  $2 billion yearly in revenue from 2019 to 2021.
  • Although the numbers don’t suggest the services’ sustainability, it’s still impressive.
  • The service continues to grow as it sets a quarterly revenue record during Q2 2025.

Xbox Game Pass was released nearly a decade ago and has been a hot topic since. Many appreciate the subscription service, which allows millions of players to enjoy titles cheaply.

Some analysts have also suggested that the Game Pass hurts Xbox game sales by a whopping 80%. However, the profile of the Head of Product at Xbox suggests that the Game Pass generated $2 billion in annual revenue from 2019 to 2021.

Why it matters: Not long ago, Phil Spencer stated that Game Pass will not replace owning games; it is just a better way to enjoy a game before purchasing it.

As seen in the above-pasted screenshot, the LinkedIn profile of the Xbox Head of Product, Richie Chouhary, who left his position in 2021, reveals that the service made $2 billion in annual revenue from 2019 to 2021.

Although these numbers are quite old, Game Pass continues to grow. It was recently reported that the subscription service set a new quarterly record and has grown by 30% in the fiscal year 2025 Q2.

While Game Pass has been a massive success for Xbox, a recent report suggests that the service still needs three times its current size to reach the 100 million subscriber goal by 2030.

Therefore, it remains to be seen how the service will perform in the coming years, but so far, it has done wonders for Xbox and players by letting them enjoy their anticipated titles on day one.
