- Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth are selling well above expectations.
- Director Naoki Hamaguchi said sales improved after the Final Fantasy 7 Revelation announcement.
- He also states that the series is selling much better than most people expect.
The Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy is set to conclude with the arrival of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation across all platforms. Expectations for the finale are extremely high, and Square Enix likely hopes to meet all these expectations.
In fact, the series director states that the game’s are already selling beyond expectations, so the third game seems set for a similar level of success.
Why it matters: Square Enix hasn’t been the most transparent with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy’s sales figures so far. Many previously speculated that the series wasn’t selling too well because of this lack of transparency.

Speaking to Automaton, director Naoki Hamaguchi said sales for Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth have been “several times” higher than expected following the reveal of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation.
The director noted that Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s announcement led to a similar sales boost for Final Fantasy 7 Remake in the past. He says that mention of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation in the future will likely continue this trend.
Discussing overall sales, Naoki Hamaguchi noted that he knows how interested fans are in knowing the figures. While he did not disclose any numbers, the director did say that sales are much higher than fans expect.
I can say they’re performing even better than most people probably imagine.
In the same interview, the director also pointed to the PC platform as one with a lot of potential. He pointed out that growth in PC gaming culture has translated to sales patterns across both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth.
This trend likely played a role in Square Enix’s decision to pursue multiplatform releases for the entire trilogy and endorse Xbox hardware.
