Microsoft has struggled with Xbox Series S|X pricing for a while, raising prices multiple times during the console’s lifecycle. Even regions like Japan have seen price hikes in the past, and a new report suggests Microsoft is once again increasing prices for Japanese Xbox fans.
It is said that all Xbox Series S|X models have gone through a price hike in Japan.
Why it matters: The Xbox Series S|X consoles have been a lot more successful in Japan compared to the Xbox One. However, recurring price increases could dwindle their popularity among this crowd.
As reported on Resetera, Xbox Series X|S prices have gone up in Japan across the full console lineup.. The thread states that all models in Japan have increased by ¥30,000.
The new prices of the lineup are as follows:
- Xbox Series X 1TB Disc ¥117,980
- Xbox Series X 1TB Digital ¥109,980
- Xbox Series S ¥97,480
As pointed out in the thread, this makes the Xbox Series S twice as expensive as the Nintendo Switch 2 in Japan. Even the Japanese PS5 model is now more affordable than the Xbox Series S.
Needless to say, this will significantly hamper Xbox’s progress in the region. Console revenue and interest is already at an all-time low for the gaming giant, so Microsoft will likely suffer from this move.
However, it seems the company has already shifted its focus to Project Helix, so it remains to be seen whether the next console will perform better than Xbox’s current generation.
