Plenty of interesting incidents have come to light within the PC gaming space recently. Where some have found bottles inside their GPU boxes, others have seemingly been handed graphics cards without any memory at all.
On a more positive note, an Nvidia RTX 5060 Ti has somehow ended up surviving an entire car crash in China.
Why it matters: Graphics cards have proven to be quite resilient, often lasting years of rough use. This accident shows yet again just how strong many modern GPUs can be.
An unlucky customer in China recently purchased a brand new AX Gaming GeForce RTX 5060 Ti. On the way back home from picking up the GPU, the customer was involved in a major car accident, though both the customer and GPU ended up surviving this crash.
The RTX 5060 Ti ended up bent after the accident, and its backplate and cooler were destroyed completely. The PCB survived, but when YouTuber Brother Zhang attempted to boot the GPU and install drivers, it instantly crashed.
He then looked at the PCB closely and resoldered one memory module at the edge of the board. This was effectively all it took for the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB to come back to life with full performance.
The reason this particular RTX 5060 Ti ended up surviving was that its PCB was short enough to avoid being bent alongside the exterior. Had the graphics card been any bigger, its PCB likely would have been damaged beyond repair.
Brother Zhang’s YouTube video shown above details the entire repair process and the state of this lucky GeForce RTX 5060 Ti. When all was said and done, the graphics card ended up passing all benchmarks with flying colors, resulting in a miraculous recovery.
