With the ongoing memory crisis, Nvidia is seemingly set to increase RTX graphics card prices once again.
One would think buying a GPU immediately would be one way around this problem. However, a Russian PC gamer who paid around $1,100 for an RTX 5070 Ti ended up discovering nothing but water in his box.
Why it matters: PC gaming hardware has become incredibly expensive in today’s world, so a retailer scamming its customers in such a way can be devastating at the end of the day.
As shared on X/Twitter, the buyer opened a sealed RTX 5070 Ti box from retailer Wildberries at the pickup location and found a water bottle inside instead of the GPU. This was likely done to add weight to the box.
In this case, the packaging was still sealed when the buyer received it. That makes the situation more concerning, suggesting a major scam on this particular store’s end. Interestingly, the same retailer was involved in a similar story not too long ago.
Previously, Wildberries also sold an RTX 5080 to a customer with a bag of grain inside the box. It wasn’t until two months later that this customer was able to get a refund for the 100,000 rubles plus GPU.
The RTX 5080 case was even taken to the police, but because the RTX 5070 Ti was found to contain a water bottle at the store itself, the latest case will likely be resolved much quicker.
Nonetheless, this video makes a great case for why one should always record unboxing videos of expensive hardware, especially today.
