The last Assassin’s Creed game was released nearly two years ago. Since then, not much has been known about the next installment of the series. However, leaks and rumors have run rampant. Industry insiders have already talked about the setting for the next Assassin’s Creed title.

Going by the rumors, three Assassin’s Creed games are currently in development. Assassin’s Creed Infinity is the main title and Ubisoft is taking a live-service approach with the game. A VR game is also in development, in addition to an alleged Assassin’s Creed title based on the older style of gameplay (non-RPG games).

While not much has been officially confirmed, it seems like everyone’s favorite Assassin could be returning to Assassin’s Creed. A new picture has led to speculation regarding the return of Ezio Auditore Da Firenze.

An image was recently posted by Ezio’s voice actor. Roger Craig Smith was recently at Ubisoft Montreal, leading to speculations about his return to the Assassin’s Creed franchise. While a new role for the legendary voice actor is not out of question, it would not make sense for Ezio’s iconic voice to be used for a different character in the Assassin’s Creed universe.

Over the years, Ezio has proven to be the most popular character in the franchise. The Italian assassin has been the only character to receive a full trilogy in the mainline titles, and his theme is still used in the newest Assassin’s Creed games, years later.

Therefore, it would not be too far-fetched to imagine the character returning to the franchise. However, Ezio’s story was already concluded years ago. The voice actor could also be recording lines for the upcoming VR game. Assassin’s Creed VR leaks pointed to Ezio’s inclusion, and this could explain Roger Craig Smith’s presence at Ubisoft Montreal.

Assassin’s Creed Infinity is rumored to span across several locations. This could be a great excuse for Ubisoft to revisit one of the most beloved characters from the franchise. However, it would be wise to take this with a grain of salt.

Ubisoft has a showcase scheduled for September 10, 2022. Assassin’s Creed is expected to show up at the event, along with Ubisoft’s upcoming titles. If Ezio is returning, this showcase would be the perfect opportunity to announce this magnitude.
