Story Highlight
  • Ben Starr is furious with Xbox for repeatedly lying to its employees before layoffs.
  • The Expedition 33 VA said the company provided false security to its employees.
  • They did it again recently by promoting Ninja Theory’s Senua as an Xbox-funded project.

The whole Xbox Reset situation is the talk of the town right now. After thousands of layoffs, the company is being called out by many in the industry. However, Sharma has blamed Phil Spencer for buying too many studios, causing financial problems.

Amid all this, an Expedition 33 and Final Fantasy actor has slammed Xbox and accused the company of lying to its employees multiple times over the past many years. He said they were given false hopes and are now being laid off.

Why it matters: Getting employed by a company like Microsoft should give you a sense of security, considering it’s one of the biggest in the world. However, as things stand, you can still be laid off despite a successful streak.

Appearing on the Pause for Thought podcast, Ben Starr was absolutely furious with Microsoft and Xbox. He said that the company lied to its employees about financial security before laying them off this week.

This dates back to 2018 and 2019, when the lies started, according to Starr. Xbox promised consolidation as a way to protect creative studios. He said the employees were promised security to pursue their projects, which were lies.

Starr was furious at Xbox for the layoffs and lies

The company was just preparing them to be laid off later down the line. Starr then moved to this year when Xbox showcased Senua. They had no intention of funding the project but still promoted it as a first-party title.

So, the company has been lying to its employees for so many past years, and it has all come down to this. The situation is quite bad, and the current and past leadership are all to blame for whatever’s been going on.
