Topping The Charts One Day Before Launch!

Story Highlight
  • Dragon’s Dogma 2 has received an overall positive reception from the critics.
  • The game has also received criticism for poor performance on PC and consoles.
  • Despite the issues, Dragon’s Dogma 2 managed to claim the best-seller position on Steam.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 has attracted much hype due to the cult following of its predecessor. Capcom decided to take the franchise to the next level, which seems to have worked. Reviews are already out, and the RPG has received a positive reception overall.

The gameplay and open world have received praise, but some issues linger. Performance isn’t ideal as the game relies heavily on the CPU, causing poor 1% lows on PC. Similarly, the console frame rate is quite unstable.

However, despite such concerns, Dragon’s Dogma 2 became the best seller on Steam one day before its launch.

Why it matters: Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the biggest release of March, so it dominating the Steam charts was well within expectations.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Beat Many Games To Secure The Top Spot

At the start of the month, the game reached the second best-seller spot due to high anticipation.

Therefore, it was always expected to make the final push needed to reach the first position. What’s interesting is that Dragon’s Dogma 2 just beat Helldivers 2, a game that has dominated this spot for over a month.

It is also interesting to note that the RPG beat Counter-Strike 2, outpacing free-to-play titles. However, for this comparison, free-to-play games have been excluded.

Unfortunately, many PC gamers might be setting themselves up for disappointment. PC benchmarks have hinted at concerning performance, with Capcom also acknowledging the CPU limitations.

The current hype could, therefore, backfire after release.

Performance issues aside, Dragon’s Dogma 2 seems to be the definitive RPG of 2024.

The game seems to be another stellar release from Capcom, further pushing the RPG genre to new heights. For this reason and more, the title has managed to stay ahead despite the hundreds of deals on Steam for the Spring sale right now.
