Helldivers 2 Still Steam’s Best Selling Game A Month After Launch

Even Beating Many Free-to-Play Titles!

Story Highlight
  • Helldivers 2 was released last month.
  • Over a month after it gained fame worldwide, the game is still holding on to the top-selling spot on Steam.
  • Only free titles like Counter-Strike 2 appear to be challenging this co-op shooter for now.

Helldivers 2 first became the top-selling game on Steam at release in February. Since then, the game has clung to this spot, keeping it away from the grasp of every other release.

Why it matters: While titles like Palworld lost nearly 85% of their players soon after launch, Helldivers 2 is becoming more and more popular with each passing day.

A List of Steam’s Current Top Sellers

Boasting accolades like PlayStation’s biggest PC launch, this co-op shooter has sold well over 3 million units. We have also noticed that it is still the best-selling game on Steam one month later.

Helldivers 2 was released on 8th February, and a month later, it’s still dominating the Steam charts. While Dragon Dogma 2 is seemingly heading for the top spot, it has been unable to challenge the PlayStation IP.

Similarly, popular titles like Starfield, Forza Horizon 5, and Monster Hunter World are currently discounted to lower prices. However, none of them have been able to challenge the co-op shooter so far.

Even Valve’s Steam Deck has been left behind. Perhaps most telling of Helldivers 2’s success is the fact that it is outselling free-to-play titles like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Apex Legends.

Compared to most AAA games, Helldivers 2 is much cheaper. This fact appears to be helping the live-service shooter, with many fans even upgrading to more expensive versions of the game as tokens of appreciation for Arrowhead Game Studios.

A month later, the game’s player base continues to fight for democracy, with over 232K active in-game at the time of writing. It also peaked at over 300k players in the last 24 hours.

In the wake of its current reception, Helldivers 2 recently achieved 200K positive Steam reviews. Following these results, PlayStation seems to have found the live-service golden goose it so desperately needed.

Even in the hyper-competitive live-service market, Arrowhead Game Studios is going toe-to-toe with the biggest studios in the industry, establishing this IP as a notable release, one that even encouraged Xbox fans to start petitions for a multiplatform release.
