It Has Been 4 Years Since We Walked That Much!

Story Highlights
  • Death Stranding was the first game from Hideo Kojima after he moved on from the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
  • The game was released exactly four years ago.
  • The production of Death Stranding 2 is going smoothly, with Hideo Kojima seemingly gearing up for a new trailer next month.

Death Stranding 2 is currently in development, and the game is expected to show up at The Game Awards.

Hideo Kojima has teased the appearance of the title at The Game Awards twice, so fans are already quite excited. Exactly one month before this event, the developer’s last game also turns four.

Death Stranding was released in 2019, and the game celebrates its fourth anniversary today.

Why it matters: Death Stranding is easily among Hideo Kojima’s biggest success, as it sold over 10 million copies and garnered a dedicated fandom.

Death Stranding’s excellence lies in the fact that it can be complex at first. Initially, the game quickly introduces players to a series of events, taking them on a wild adventure.

At its core, the game revolves around making deliveries as Sam Porter Bridges. While some have dubbed the game a simple ‘walking simulator’ because of this loop, it introduces subtle mechanics like balancing cargo and managing inventory to mix things up.

Walking in Death Stranding can be quite a special experience. Once the game’s soundtrack gets going and the camera pans out to show the jaw-dropping environments, this simple act can be mesmerizing in itself.

While the gameplay mostly revolves around deliveries, Death Stranding also includes combat. Players can use stealth to blend in or take the enemies head-on during these sections, where the game essentially becomes a third-person shooter.

As for the more disturbing parts of the game, its narrative involves various twists and turns. Throughout the game, players encounter BTs, which can be terrifying and occupy the role of the game’s major antagonists.

These otherworldly beings leave no option but to run away at first. Eventually, Death Stranding allows the player to face them, leading to a few memorable boss encounters.

With Deat Stranding 2 already revealed, the enthusiasm around this franchise has been very high recently. Norman Reedus is returning to the IP as Sam, and Hideo Kojima has introduced several new actors hand-picked by the director.

Fans should now stay tuned for The Game Awards since the game is more or less confirmed to make an appearance at the event in December.
