Featured Assets From Just Cause and Destructible Environments!

Story Highlight
  • Avalanche Studio was reportedly working on an Iron Man game in the 2010s.
  • Over 90 minutes of footage from the game has leaked online, showcasing a lot of gameplay.
  • It borrowed assets from Just Cause and featured destructible environments.

Superhero games have a mixed history of either being massively successful or being hugely disappointing. We have genre-defining titles like Batman: Arkham and Marvel’s Spider-Man games, and then we have the likes of Avengers and more.

There’s an Iron Man game in development by EA Motive. Separate from that, in the 2010s Avalanche Studios was working on an Iron Man game, which was canceled, but new footage has now surfaced over 15 years later.

Why it matters: Iron Man, or flying games in general, are difficult to execute because of the mechanics involved, and considering the title is largely associated with flight, the studio could’ve gotten it terribly wrong if it failed.

On Reddit, over 90 minutes of gameplay footage for the Iron Man game has been leaked online. It has reportedly surfaced through a PS3 dev kit and was in development at Just Cause developer Avalanche.

Now, we can clearly see the inspiration in the terrains from Just Cause’ visuals. The flying also looks decent enough for its time. Interestingly, it even had destructible environments and buildings as a gameplay mechanic.

EA Iron Man Game
The canceled title is different from the currently in-development Iron Man game at EA

The character was also massively popular at that time due to the RDJ movies. So, the game could’ve made it big if it wasn’t canceled. However, it was, and it’s unclear why Disney decided to shelve the title.
