Also Announced A Separate Game Set In Atomic Universe!

Story Highlight
  • Mundfish has announced Atomic Heart 2 at Summer Game Fest.
  • The sequel features greater emphasis on freedom and storytelling.
  • The studio has also revealed a second game set in the Atomic universe.

Atomic Heart was a pleasant surprise from Russian developer Mundfish in 2023. Thanks to solid optimization and better-than-anticipated performance at release, the game quickly garnered popularity as one of the more interesting first-person shooters of the modern era.

This success has now paved the path for a thriving franchise. At today’s Summer Game Fest, Mundfish has just announced the sequel to Atomic Heart.

Why it matters: The first game laid a solid foundation, and Mundfish is now set to take things to the next level with the sequel.

The trailer for Atomic Heart 2 shows just as much action and bizarre elements as the original title, but Mundfish promises a heavier emphasis on freedom and storytelling. Additionally, the RPG elements are said to be more important this time around, allowing for more player expression overall.

Although the team has yet to share an official release window, it states that the game is in the works for both consoles and PCs. Fans can also expect a switch to Unreal Engine 5, as the original release utilized Unreal Engine 4 and produced stunning results.

For those interested in learning more about Atomic Heart 2, the Steam page is now live. As per Mundfish, the game is now available to wishlist, so more information should be coming shortly.

Elsewhere, the studio has announced The Cube, marking its second major reveal at Summer Game Fest 2025. This project is said to be an MMO RPG shooter set in the Atomic universe.

What are your thoughts on Atomic Heart 2? Do you think the second game will be even better than the first? Let’s discuss in the comments and on the Tech4Gamers Forums.
