- Asha Sharma wants Xbox to entertain a billion people in the future.
- The CEO thinks there are enough culturally relevant IPs in the company’s library to achieve this goal.
- Sharma also promised a return to growth in 2027.
After seeing an injection of positivity earlier this year, the last few weeks have brought back the atmosphere of instability around Xbox. Several credible outlets have reported a massive round of layoffs impacting multiple first-party Xbox studios.
Now, the company has confirmed these job cuts, announcing that over 3,000 employees will be let go as part of a major restructuring. While announcing these layoffs, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma also outlined a major ambition she wants to achieve in the future.
Why it matters: Reaching a billion players isn’t as outlandish as it sounds, but Team Green will need to change fundamentally to achieve this goal.

In a message shared on X, Xbox boss Asha Sharma revealed that she wants the gaming giant to reach one billion players each day. The CEO went on to say that Xbox should be one of the few companies on the planet that entertains a billion people while allowing everyone to connect and create.
I want XBOX to be one of the few companies that entertains more than a billion people each day and gives everyone the opportunity to create and connect.
Sharma also insisted that she believes Xbox can achieve this goal, as it has some of the most beloved franchises in entertainment history under its wing. In addition, even though the gaming giant has failed to grow as expected, the CEO promised it will progress once again in 2027.
This isn’t the first time Sharma has mentioned this incredible ambition, previously stating that Xbox aims to become the biggest entertainment company in the world by 2030. The CEO also claimed that Call of Duty as a brand is already bigger than the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Hence, even though the one billion number might sound daunting, the Xbox boss has a plan to achieve it, and mobile game developers Mojang and King will be an essential part of the equation, according to the memo.
