"Good Games Will Get Cloned and Buired"!

Story Highlight
  • An analyst has warned that AI vibe-coded games could take over stores like Steam.
  • The tech can clone titles, and the really good games will be buried beneath them.
  • This is an alarming sign, as AI should only be used to expedite stuff in development.

We are in the middle of a massive AI boom that has totally changed our whole perspective on a lot of things. Game development has also started integrating the tech, which draws a lot of criticism, but it seems like it’s here to stay.

Additionally, an analyst has warned that AI vibe coding could soon become one of the biggest challenges and issues with stores like Steam, as the tech takes over. It’ll be hard to find good games, and they’ll be buried beneath.

Why it matters: Everyone has their opinion on using the tech in game development. It’s fine as long as it’s just used to expedite certain processes, but using it to make full games will result in AI slop and low-quality titles.

AI Vibe Coding
Analyst warns of AI vibe-coded games taking over Steam

Mat Piscatella on Blusky has warned about the direction in which the gaming industry is headed. He says that stores like Steam will soon be full of AI vibe-coded games, which will overwhelm the true great games it has.

For context, vibe coding allows you to make complete ripoffs of already made games. So, Piscatella says that ‘good games will be cloned and buried’, and players will only look towards established and known IPs

AI is now a huge part of game development

This will divert attention from genuinely good human-made titles, which will be hard to find amid all the AI slop. This is a genuine concern as the tech has actually gotten this good that it clones the games with just a few commands.

Previously, the CDPR head also revealed that he talked to certain studios that are ready to drop games fully built using AI. So, while yes, it can help with fast-forwarding stuff, in the long run, it could be disastrous for players.
