It comes as no surprise that Age of Empires is and has always been a widely successful franchise. However, a recent livestream on YouTube confirms that the series has now achieved a massive milestone of over 50 million players.

Why it matters: The long-running Microsoft franchise, since its launch, has been a commercial and critical success. This milestone confirms it is still relevant today, offering some of the best strategy gameplay in the modern day.

Age of Empires recently debuted on Xbox consoles in the form of Age of Empire 2 Definitive Edition. This, in addition to recent efforts to popularize the series, has resulted in this incredible milestone for the strategy IP.

Age of Empires 4 was also shadow-dropped for Xbox consoles recently. Now, the team is expanding the series with Age of Mythology: Retold. This game will yet again serve as another Xbox release for the series.

The title is currently scheduled for 2024, and a Steam page has already gone live. Apart from this major reveal, a new trailer for Age of Empires Mobile has been aired, highlighting a seamless transition to this platform.

Meanwhile, multiple DLCs for existing games have been announced to ensure a healthy player base for the future.
