Microsoft is clearly in a strong place right now and is achieving commercial success for its Gamepass and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The Xbox Game Pass programme has taken the gaming world by storm.
The value for money for the subscription is over the roof because new titles are added to Game Pass every month. Xbox Game Pass is quickly becoming a must-have subscription for all gamers, as it provides something for everyone at a reasonable price.
Microsoft has announced that its game streaming service Xbox Cloud Gaming has surpassed 10 million customers worldwide. The service, which was previously known as xCloud, is now available in 26 countries around the world.
The figures were revealed by Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella during the company’s Build conference on Tuesday.
We’re bringing Xbox everywhere with Xbox Cloud Gaming. More than 10 million Xbox players have streamed games across 26 countries. – Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella
Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming, formerly known as xCloud, was released to the general public towards the end of 2020. Xbox Game Pass, notably the “Ultimate” version of the monthly membership, includes the streaming gameplay.
Hundreds of titles are available to stream via the cloud, and Microsoft improved the backend last year to support cloud gaming with the Xbox Series X.
Last year, the Xbox Cloud Gaming experience was also reportedly upgraded. The Xbox Series X-based servers now power the service.
While Microsoft has never released user statistics for the game streaming service, the fact that Microsoft put so much effort into it, it appears to have paid off, as there are already 10 million subscribers.
Although Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming has experienced rapid growth, it still trails Nvidia’s GeForce Now in terms of user numbers.
Nvidia’s cloud gaming service, GeForce Now, gives users access to over 800 games that can be streamed directly to PCs, Android, and iOS devices, as well as the Nvidia Shield TV. GeForce Now is a part of the industry’s push toward cloud gaming, and the platform is growing in popularity.
As of September 2021, the latter had 12 million users. GeForce Now, which debuted in February 2020, has a few months on Xbox Cloud Gaming and is already available in 70 countries. In the first year, Nvidia’s service delivered over 175 million hours of game streaming.
GeForce NOW membership has more than doubled in the last year, giving Electronic Arts access to more than 12 million gamers. Collectively, over 20 million hours of gameplay are streamed each month via GeForce NOW from 30 data centres in more than 70 countries- As Reported by Nvidia.
Regardless, it is a significant milestone for Microsoft, even if it lags behind Nvidia Geforce Now. It’s still remarkable to see how effectively cloud gaming has taken off, as it initially appeared to be a gimmick that would fade away with time and be forgotten about because everyone assumed that the gameplay would be laggy or too choppy, which would take away the fun.
However, it appears that Nvidia and Microsoft have broader goals in mind, and the gaming experience is unbelievably seamless, considering it is cloud-based.
What are your thoughts? Do you think Cloud Gaming is the future? Do you think it can become as common as traditional gaming in future?
