CEO Of Google Announces That AI Now Generates 75% Of Its New Code

Google Now Fully Relies On Generative AI!

Story Highlight
  • Three-quarters of the fresh code at Google is now produced by generative artificial intelligence, as confirmed by the CEO.
  • The reliance on automated coding has surged significantly in a short time, jumping from 25% in late 2024 to its current level.
  • Human staff still evaluate and authorize every piece of machine-generated code to ensure quality and control.

At the Cloud Next ’26 conference, Google revealed that artificial intelligence now generates 75% of the new code it develops. For comparison, in October 2024, Google said that “AI generated more than a quarter” of its new code.

Just two months ago, on February 4, 2026, Google’s CFO mentioned approximately 50%. And now, in April 2026, CEO Sundar Pichai has increased that figure to 75%. This clearly indicates Google’s massive, ongoing pace of automating development within the organization.

Google AI

Google explained that it is talking about new code in terms of AI’s role in its creation, rather than the entire codebase. Furthermore, Google says that human engineers continue to review and approve the AI-generated code. It is not the case that “AI programs on their own and completely displace the human developer,” but rather that a helped-and-supervised approach is used.

We’ve been using AI to generate code internally at Google for some time now. Currently, 75% of all new Google code is generated by AI and approved by engineers, up from 50% last fall.

-Sundar Pichai

It must be known that Google uses its own engineering as a marketing strategy. Google wants to prove that its agentive tools operate at scale internally before selling the same concept to cloud clients.

That is an inference, but it is well supported by how Google frames the statement. If they can already write 75% of their new code with AI, the rest of the team can as well. As a result, their AI will be a valuable asset to programmers.
