Packaging and Unboxing

Gamdias product boxes are simple yet informative. The front displays key details with company and product names, a central product image, and highlighted features. The sides list features, and the back provides additional information in 9 languages, along with specifications, logos, and bar codes.

Upon opening, the mousepad is securely packed with thick foam to prevent shipping damage. The box also includes a USB type C adaptor for wireless charging. That’s what you get in the box!

Design

The pad feels sturdy at first glance, built with tough hard plastic. Its top surface, supporting the included cloth, has a textured grip. Shiny black plastic edges and a clear lower edge for glowing LEDs complete the look. The top left features a module with a wireless charging indicator, a USB-C port, and a braided USB cable with a gold-plated connector. Note the indicator needs the wireless charging adaptor to work, which is not included with the mouse pad. The entire bottom surface is rubber, not small pads, preventing slipping. Now, let’s talk about the mouse pad surfaces.

PRO TIP: Versatile RGB, dual surfaces, and wireless charging make the Gamdias Nyx P2 a top pick for gamers.

This cloth pad rocks two surfaces, which are speed and control. The control side’s a bit rough for killer grip, while the speed side lets your mouse slide like a pro. No stitching on the edges, so watch out for fraying. The mouse pad is a solid plastic build that feels awesome in action.

Testing

The mouse pad is being tested with a Gamdias Hades RGB wireless mouse and a Logitech Proteus Spectrum G502. The associated Gamdias Hera software is used for the RGB lighting effects, so I will test it as well. Also, as we didn’t receive the additional adaptor to enable wireless charging, we couldn’t test it out.

Speed Surface Performance: The mouse pad’s speed surface impresses with its smooth and sleek texture, providing an optimal experience for high-sensitivity users. The surface is uniform, free from kinks or bumps, allowing both the G502 and Hades mice to move freely without any hindrance.

Solid Build Quality: Despite its plastic composition, the mouse pad exhibits a commendable build quality. The base shows minimal flex under pressure, and the glossy plastic rim remains unscathed, maintaining its shiny appearance. Additionally, the indicator module in the top left corner is securely attached, contributing to the overall sturdiness.

Control Surface Evaluation: On the flip side, the control surface presents a slightly rough feel with a distinctive diamond-shaped pattern. While free from unwanted bumps, it gives off a somewhat lower quality vibe compared to the smooth speed surface.

Sticker Dilemma: A notable concern arises from the use of stickers for surface type, wireless charging, and model logos. These stickers, covering significant portions of the pad, can impact mouse movement, resulting in erratic gliding. A potential improvement in future revisions could involve transitioning from stickers to printed logos for a smoother user experience.

WARNING: Watch out for potential mouse movement issues with large stickers on both surfaces.

Software

Let’s dive into Hera software – a must for switching mouse pad lighting effects and controlling other Gamdias gear. Open it up, and you’ll see cool product pics and connected peripherals. Click the Nyx icon for the Luminance and Update/Support tabs. Luminance is where you tweak mouse pad lighting – brightness, speed, direction, and colors. No custom effects, but plenty of options to play with!

RGB Lights

The pad’s lighting is just right—neither too dim nor too bright. Colors pop accurately compared to the software. It’s consistently lit all around, though a tad brighter would be nice. The Nyx P2 is a solid choice for an RGB mouse pad despite some design hiccups. Looking forward to improvements in the next version!

Should You Buy It?

Carefully analyzing Gamdias Nyx P2, I concluded that:

Buy It If

You are looking for customizable RGB lighting: If you enjoy gaming setups with dynamic RGB lighting, the Gamdias Nyx P2 offers a visually appealing experience.

You have different gaming scenarios: If you value the flexibility of adjusting your mouse pad surface based on the gaming genre or your personal preferences, the Nyx P2 provides two distinct options, i.e., speed and control.

You want wireless charging: If you are a user who values wireless charging capabilities, having this feature integrated into the mouse pad can be a convenient addition to your gaming station.

Don’t Buy It If

You prioritize smooth surface: Suppose you are sensitive to surface textures and prefer a consistently smooth glide. In that case, the dual-sided nature of the Nyx P2, with one side offering a slightly rougher control surface, may not be suitable for your preferences.

You are concerned about movement: If you find the presence of large stickers on the mouse pad, covering significant portions, to be a potential hindrance to your mouse’s motion, it might be a drawback for your gaming experience.

You are not interested in wireless charging:  Suppose wireless charging is not a feature you find necessary for your gaming setup, and you don’t want to invest in a mouse pad with this additional capability. In that case, you may consider other options without this feature.

Final Verdict

Gamdias’ Nyx Pad introduces their first RGB mouse pad, a unique choice in a limited market. It offers exclusive features like swappable surfaces and built-in Qi wireless charging. The setup is easy, the design is sleek in black, and the construction is durable with minimal flex. The two swappable surfaces cater to user preferences, though the large stickers on both can hinder motion. The lighting and usage are commendable, with a variety of RGB modes available in the software. The Nyx Pad stands out for its distinctive features, making it worth considering for those seeking a unique and functional mouse pad.
