In today’s digital world, we are surrounded by digital devices, particularly handheld ones. With the ever-rising usage of these devices, it is common to have multiple such devices in a single place, like a home. In my case, we have 4 smart mobile phones in addition to a power bank. No matter how many there are, one thing remains constant, which is the charging requirement of these devices.
It is obviously cumbersome to have these many chargers/cables as well. ORICO has taken good care of this issue and has provided a desktop charging station that allows you to charge up to 5 or 10 devices depending upon the station that you would be getting. It is a convenient way of charging multiple devices at the same time. ORICO has sent us their DUK-5P desktop charging station for review. This station comes in two variants; 5-port and 10-port. The DUK-5P is available in two colors; white and black.
It has 5 ports and stands to charge your mobile phones and tablets. The device is rated at 5V with up to 2.4A per USB port, making the total output power 40W maximum. There is a single button to start/stop the device without the need to turn the wall socket power button off.

Closer Look
The ORICO 5-Port Multi-Function Power Station is an excellent execution of the simple yet brilliant idea, which is to provide a convenient single-place charging capability for multiple devices at a time. This station is capable of charging 5 devices at a time, and I am interested to find out if it can actually provide 5V/2.4A per port as per the specification. The station measures 125x100x55mm (LxWxH). The station is made of PC + ABS material. It has an extremely fine finish with a gorgeous design that will definitely lift the looks of your desktop table, provided you use the smaller-length charging cables. Taking a look at the station from the top side, there are 5 slots where the devices are placed. The station is two coloreds, white and gray, which really give this station a beautiful and bold look. Each slot is sandwiched between two raised tabs. Each tab has a dimension of 8x10x95mm (WxHxL). The slots have curved surfaces in design, and the exterior of the station is also rounded on the edges, making one heck of a smooth, coherent design. The height of 10mm of each tab ensures that any chargeable device is placed securely.

The bottom of the station has a white color background. There are four studs on each corner with rubber inserts/mounts. This is there to ensure a gap between the surface on which the station is placed and the station itself. The rubber mounts will help to avoid scratching the surface. Other than the overall aesthetics, I don’t see any use of this design as there is no ventilation area on this side which would have made sense given this rise of height.
ORICO brand name and logo are printed at on the left side in a light gray color. Some technical information about the station is printed on the right side. This station operates at 50/60Hz using AC100-240V and 1.2A max. The output on each port is 5V/2.4A with a total output of 5V/8A, making it 40W maximum.

The backside of the station has a two-pin power port and a power on/off button. One observation made during the operation is that once it is pressed into power on the station, the cap of the button loosens up.

The front side of the station has a blue LED indicator on the left side which lights up when the station is powered up. It is followed by 5 USB ports that are well-spaced out. There is approximately 9mm of gap between any two ports. ORICO has implemented Adopting an Intelligence USB Chip, which ensures the delivery of proper current to the device and protects the battery to reduce losses.
To improve the efficiency of the station, ORICO is using MPS synchronous rectification, which reduces the charger rectifier loss and improves the power efficiency of the station.

This station carries a multi-protection safety system which includes:
- Overpower protection
- Overcurrent protection
- Surge Protection
- Overvoltage protection
- 750° fire retardant
- Short circuit protection
- Overcharge protection
- Overheat protection
When the temperature exceeds 100°, the power is automatically cut off to safeguard the devices. The user will have re-plug the station to resume working. This station features a segmented current limit meaning that there is current and overload protection on each port. In the case of a surge or short circuit, the power will be cut off immediately, and its functioning will be restored once the overload factor is addressed. ORICO has gone all out to bring one of the most user-friendly power stations.
Testing
For testing, I decided to opt for a mechanism that any user can replicate at his/her place to verify if the power station is working properly. The idea behind my testing is simple. I have used 4 Android-based mobile phones. First, each of these phones was connected to its original charger, and for 15 minutes of charging, the maximum current and voltage being drawn were noted.
Then all these mobile phones are connected to the power station at the same time, and during 15 minutes of the charging, the maximum current and voltage being drawn were noted. If the station is not capable of providing enough power to each connected device, the current and voltage level would differ; otherwise, the charger validates the rated specification. The following smartphones were used:
- Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge
- Samsung Galaxy A5 2015
- Samsung Galaxy Note 3
- Huawei 3C
Device | Original Charger | DUK-5P
Ampere | Voltage | Ampere | Voltage
S7 Edge | 1020 mA | 4.201V | 1040 mA | 4.203V |
A5 2015 | 1195 mA | 4.297V | 1192 mA | 4.198V |
Note 3 | 1200 mA | 4.231V | 1200 mA | 4.158V |
3C | 1170 mA | 4.202 | 1177 mA | 4.311 |
The Android application Ampere from Braintrapp version 3.11 was used for this purpose by installing this application on all mobile phones. Our testing has validated that each port was getting sufficient power to charge the devices without any drop in the voltage.

Conclusion
The ORICO 5-port Multi-Function Power Station DUK-5P is a convenient way of charging multiple chargeable devices, like mobile phones, tablets, etc, at the same time. This power station is available in two models; 5 USB Ports and 10 USB Ports, in two colors; black and white. The white edition has two colors on the station. The holder section on the top is in the light gray section, while the charging station at the bottom is in white color. This color combination and the overall design make a gorgeous-looking power station that would complement the tabletop where it will be used.

Now comes my favorite part, and that is the plethora of safety features that this power station carries. These include Overpower protection, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection, surge protection, overcharge protection, overheat protection, and short circuit protection.
In our testing, we have found that this station is capable of providing sufficient power on each port for the simultaneous charging of the connected devices. We could only test with 4 devices, but based on the testing, we can safely assume that 5 devices would get sufficient power to charge them.
The only drawback that I could think of it is the lack of small-length USB cables in the accessories at this price. The small length of 200mm would be ideal to use with this power station for a much cleaner look and aesthetics and, as such, should have been bundled with the product. This power station is listed at $39.99 at the time of the review and makes this unique product worth the buy.
