- Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake became the highest-rated Metacritic game of 2026.
- Its incredible 9.6 User Score has also made it the best-ever user-reviewed game.
- Many people are claiming that the remake is now their de facto choice over the original.
Nintendo exclusives have been nothing but quality for a long time now. So, naturally, when the company announced the remake of the legendary Ocarina of Time, fans were thrilled, and as expected, they have blown it out of the park.
It is not only the best-rated release of 2026 on Metacritic, but Ocarina of Time Remake also holds the highest-ever user score on the platform with a 9.6, sitting at over 5K reviews, along with the 96 critics’ score.
Why it matters: Many have said that this is now their default version of the game. This is a similar story to what Capcom did with Resident Evil 4, as the remake eclipsed the original for most players.

Ocarina of Time Remake is currently sitting with a user score of 9.6 on Metacritic; in fact, the score has been fluctuating between this and 9.7. It has officially beaten the previous record holder, Expedition 33, which scored 9.4.
Based on the incredible reviews, the title is undoubtedly going to be a huge financial success as well. Nintendo’s revenue has always been massive, but this could push it to even new highs in the next fiscal year.

Interestingly, it is also already running on PC at 60 FPS, just a couple of days after launch, highlighting how quick emulation has gotten. Nintendo obviously keeps its exclusives, but PC players are bypassing those restrictions.
